Transport of firearms in a Motorhome.

A different post got me thinking about how I had a plan to put a safe in my motorhome for transporting my firearms when going camping.
I have read that when you are camping that camp is like an extension of your home when considering firearms (correct me if I'm wrong).
But if I have them in the way back of the motorhome that is not easily accessible to the driver of the vehicle and in a locked safe with out the magazine in the weapon(s) would there be a problem if I was stopped and was foolish enough to answer the question "Do you have any firearms in the vehicle" (the NRA life member sticker on the back of my vehicles gets me asked that question a lot) in the affirmative.

I am taking from one place to another not just tooling around. and it would be in a locked box with the magazine out of the weapons.

What do you guys think?

I think you have all the bases covered.

The way it was explained to me by a CHP officer was that while the motorhome is on the road it is treated as a motor vehicle and firearms must be transported as such, parked at a campsite etc. it is a temporary domicile and you have the same rights you would have at home.

Correct, as long as they stay behind the drivers seat. Just like in a bus.
