    SB 704 Nonsense.

Background check for barrels? Insanity! Anybody have the list of politicians we need to contact?

In many countries the barrel is the restricted part of the firearm. So, I have no problem if CA decides to go to registering barrels INSTEAD of frames or receivers. CA would just need to get the Feds onboard first.

Who gives a **** what other countries register? The ONLY acceptable registration law or rules are those equivalent to those in Idaho's Constitution. "No law shall impose licensure, registration or special taxation on the ownership or possession of firearms or ammunition. Nor shall any law permit the confiscation of firearms, except those actually used in the commission of a felony.”

Unfortunately that's not how this one will work. Bill Text: CA SB704 | 2025-2026 | Regular Session | Amended | LegiScan

I'm saying if "they" want to change the restricted part from "frame or receiver" to "barrel", I'd be fine with that. I'm not fine with both being restricted parts.

It's not a change 'from', it's an 'and'.

Not sure just how they'll do that. I can't think of a single American made firearm in my collection that has a barrel sporting a serial number (from companies that didn't start in Europe and now made here).

I even have several centerfire guns without any serial number at all.

Some Democrap likely only had exposure to his, her, or 'they's' police department to review wares like Glocks, SIGs, HKs, or CZs and assumed all gun barrels sported serial numbers.

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?

I am opposed to registering any firearm or any part. I am opposed to background checks, waiting periods, rosters, and having to go through a dealer for a private party transaction; everyone of these is an anathema to the Second Amendment.
Many firearms are now and were in the past serialized on major components; S&W revolvers prior to the introduction of model numbers, were serialized on the frame, barrel, and cylinder.
