    Concise CA Law Update Threads

A suggestion for the Admins: Can we have one pinned thread for update regarding the CA law updates without member comments making the thread too big and bulky to follow.
Most members may not know the names of the cases but it would be helpful at a glance to know what are the latest update for the laws

For ex: The new Ammo Law update:

    2-2-24: CA Ammo Law :
The law regarding ammo purchase and a background check required has been overturned

CA residents can now order ammo without FFL directly at their residence address online

This way members like me can read the simple informed update from an informed senior member who knows about this kind of changes immediately and if action is required vs following 200 pages of a thread that are opinions and wishful thinking from members.

Facts without opinions? Why why it's revolutionary. Whatever would we do with the group that tells us over and over how crooked the judges are, how screwed up the state and the system are. They would all probably go over to OT and ruin it.

exactly for this reason. So we know the verdict of the case vs how everyone feels on it. Mr. homeless no worries you can continue to give your opinions on other threads, as no doubt you will.

        Nobody reads those.

At least, when attempted, there has been no evidence it has been read - just more new threads asking the same questions.

Partially, that seems to be an aspect of using a phone to read and post - it's hard to see many threads at once.

Partially it's a vocabulary/knowledge problem. If one does not know 'court speak', it's tough to recognize significant things. And, partially it's because many news articles don't bother to include 'the case is Rhode vs Bonta, now being considered by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals [link]' so it looks like the article is something new.

And partially, it's because getting some people to click on a link can be very difficult - 'I don't want to read all that, I want the answer to my question!'

I have long wanted the ability to 'pair' threads. Say, title one 'EVENTS: case name" and the other "DISCUSS: case name", and link them such that a post in either bumps both. Closest I seem to get is updating the first post in a thread with events - and just now, the database refuses to let me update some of those.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

The closest analogue to an updates-only post is how moderators locked the Duncan v. Bonta thread, which simply punted all the opinionated discussions, which I understand people find annoying, back into the old Duncan v. Bonta thread.

I do not believe this configuration resolved anything because every time a legal development occurs, 10 different duplicate threads appear asking the same question.

The Ninth Circuit stayed Rhode v. Bonta as of 2 hours ago, so the list has already become useless other than as a reference to which retailers stood behind Californians during Freedom Weekend 2024.

Usually when something happens in a case it is up on the website before it is on the street. All you have to do is pay attention and learn to like reading. Sometimes the opinions get old especially when people keep beating the same dead horse over and over again Have you watched the interview with Chuck from CRPA that popped up on the thread? Pretty much explains whats going on.
PS. avf Thanks for permission to post on certain threads.

I do want to note that the database issue preventing the updating of thread titles does actually heavily impact the ability to quickly observe litigation updates.
