Spall guards for AR680 plates are currently available. The actual weight of the Maingun plates have not been verified, but since they are 4.5mm thick, I would imagine they will be lighter.

At this time, I can only speculate that the steels used are different.

Just got word. The new Maingun Advance plates will be available for order in one week!

He is pricing them extremely affordably, and also offering them with plate carriers.

$1000??? LOL I pick perfectly good esapi plates up on Bookoo for a HECK of a lot less. Got a whole MTV with all 4 plates for $75

For the money you are asking the steel plates make MUCH more sense. Especially the new lightweight ones DR mentions.

Had you kept it "professional" and posted in the 4 Sale Forum I couldn't have pointed out your overpricing.

Without divulging anything, I estimate they should be *around* 5 lb. per plate for the 10X12. Again, this is an estimate, based on my experience with armor and the particular material being used. The final plates may be slightly lighter or heavier. Regardless, it is quite exciting to contemplate. Major kudos to Doc at Maingun for his diligence and determination to get these into the hands of the Public.

Keep your eye on his site for details when it finally is released, and my blog for review.

Hey guys, no need for a barroom brawl. I take the blame, I should have been more clear with everything. At this time, the AR680 plates are the best thing going. I am hoping they will soon offer them with the option of foregoing the Line-X buildup, since some guys like to run light, some like to do my guards alone, and some do like to double up (coating+guards). Right now, I think their main focus is just getting them shipping.

Regarding the Maingun plates, I am not at liberty to divulge too many details, but I can say this: the steel is NOT AR680 (it is better), and the plates I listed on my blog are NOT 10X12 ESAPI profile. They are a proprietary profile designed specifically for Maingun. I would advise people to keep an eye on their site, however, as well as my blog, as more information will be released soon.

All that can be said is, it's a good time to be in the market for level III+ steel plates.

I was just curious if the Armour Wear should have better ballistic properties, or does Main Gun have some new technology? As far as pricing and release date, I contacted Main Gun and they said that they were having issues with suppliers for materials, and that the expected price point was about $160 for a pair! If these are expected to perform as well as the Armour Wear offering, at almost half the weight, and half the price, I feel they are definitely worth waiting for. I understand that anything Main Gun is saying right now is speculation, but I was curious as to whether or not D-r had some inside information.
