While a compromise, and I was a bit skeptical about comfort, so far the HHV ~1 inch thick lattice suspension system has been very comfortable and well ventilated, something I've tested directly on my bald head.

Normally I sweat buckets when exerting and wear a sweat band or skull cap but so far I haven't had to with the new helmet. Also, after initial donning, I tend to forget I have it on once it settles in. However, the longest I've had it on is about two hours at a stretch during hikes.

I got an e-mail this morning from HHV regarding their new release gen 3 US made version of the helmet I bought.

I did actually wear Snell rated helmets for about 30 years when racing and built roll cages as part of my business and, before the advent of funny car style cages in door slammer classes in our type of racing we got by fine with very minimal padding. However, now, with hard tubing in close proximity and also higher speeds and G-forces, padding, and helmet restraint systems have become more important to safety.

I also remember how uncomfortable it was with all the fire protective gear and helmet on. Couldn't wait to get out of the car. With ballistic gear, I expect to be in it for hours if not longer so accept the compromises that come with a modicum of comfort. No solution is perfect. Safer, for me, is OK.

ETA - Regarding night vision, what I'm doing with gear is investing what my lawyer has saved me in actions against the big banks from economic warfare. Hence my budget is somewhat limited and I can only afford a decent quality monocular. Currently, I'm evaluating samples from this group...

My goal is to, as much as possible, use windfalls from economic warfare to fund any military and paramilitary hardware. So far it's worked well. The apparent new processes for some pre-86 dealer samples and form 3 and 4 submissions is heartening. I didn't think any NFA stuff would be realistically available this year. Perfect time to put six plus decades of being a peaceful responsible citizen to good use.

Today I'm building out a sound system for aural warfare and constructing some cornhole boards for the little July 4 party here in the canyon. I'll test the sound system at the party. Thanks Chase bank.

    Happy prepping and stay safe

I think I talked the neighbor lady into wearing her beach buggy helmet the next time. She says it bothers her neck and thought building up neck muscles was a good idea.

I now call it the buggy, bicycle and bullets helmet. Next step is adding an accessory or two to it. Still looking for a good night vision monocular. So far no complaints
Slap nods and counterweight on it and see if it still doesn't seem heavy.

I'd be curious to see corroboration on the claim that the ATE Lite shell is made locally in Texas. That shell is the basis for the helmet I bought.

The HHV ATE? Lite helmet shell is available for those customers whom want to build out their helmet with specific components either from HHV or other companies. The helmet shell (1.6lbs Medium) is made up of UHMWPE and aramid fibers. Proudly made in Sweetwater, Texas.
Hard Head Veterans manufactures ballistic helmets and other protective head gear for those in harms way. Proudly veteran owned & operated out of Sweetwater, Texas.

That's the closest I can find on their site to how the basic shell for that model is made in USA. At over 750 bucks for the raw shell it certainly is expensive.

I was impressed by how clean the shell looked inside and out and on the edges. That model (ATE Lite complete) size (large) and color (green) is now backordered 8-10 weeks as of today.

So, the Ballistic Armor Helmet states like HHV that they send the material to China for pressing the shells. Then they bring them back and finish them in house. The HHV has what seems to be a pretty nice liner. But for the additional money it was not worth it to me. I can see why people would like it though. Pics won't load. Sorry fellas.

I'll do further testing but did note an oddity worth mentioning. I used a paid off AMEX vanity card to purchase the helmet and got two alerts when making the purchase, one that I had a large denomination purchase and the other that they'd cut my credit line which had been in place for 20 years or more to roughly half of what it was prior. Same exact moment.

Infer, or not. Could simply be coincidence. I don't think so. We're discussing CBDC in detail in another discussion forum and control over purchases is one topic of discussion. Is a ballistic helmet 'bad'? Will it be? How about body armor? Ammunition? Thermal imaging? Night vision?

Just putting that out there. IDK, maybe I have a bad social credit score. If so, I've earned it

ETA I added a picture of the helmet on the postal scale to the album. With no attachments, ready to wear the helmet weighs 2 pounds, 13 ounces.

<ETA, deleted sample picture due to large size; see album>

From zero, everything looked well packaged, arrived on time and initial inspection showed no flaws or red flags to check further, but I will inspect more closely after removing interior padding, as the seller recommends.

I've had the helmet on about an hour now just doing normal chores and am glad I spent the extra money for the lighter unit. I'll weigh it to confirm.

I feel a bit of pressure from the suspension system (my head measurement is in the middle of the large size range) but it fits well and the straps were easy to adjust. I like the magnetic engagement on the primary strap; makes donning and doffing easier.

Side streps are easy to adjust on the head. Time will tell about ventilation and humidity handling. I'll go on a few walks to gauge that. I'll test it first on my bald head as a control then with a head cover/skin cap. Right now it''s bare.

My initial impression is solid quality and constriction. Will report back with further findings.

That helmet you purchased is the same you can get on AliExpress for $127 shipped.

I actually bought one and shot it with all different rounds. It stopped 9mm, 40, 22lr. It didn?t stop 10mm or any larger rounds.

I have videos if you want to see them getting shot.
It appears to be the same helmet as Hard Headed Veterans too. They both put improved components in them. I got mine at a discount. I saw several videos of it stopping .44 mag. But, in the end they aren't really for stopping bullets. They are for stopping shrapnel. I see it as stopping BLM baseball bats.

Both claim Level 4 but test paper is only 44 and 357. Doesn't say Made In USA so I guess that means China.

I thought Kevlar was what you want, or is that just for soft vests?

Doesn't poly get fried in heat, like car trunk?
