Move to Lockford. Lockford is about 30 min to Stockton and your very close to good fishing ie Lake Pardee, Lake Amadore, Lake Comanche. Also close to Jackson CA

Having grown up in Stockton (across the street from McKinley park) and still have friends and family there, as others have mentioned, there are nice areas, but with the state of the city's financial and credit status, the services and infrastructure continue to decline. The bad is that things haven't changed much when I was last there in the early 1980s. The good is that communities surrounding Stockton have done much better. My mom moved to Ripon in the late 1980s, and I have many friends who moved to the towns outside of Stockton. I had an uncle who moved to Ione when he retired, but that is a bit of drive into the city limits.

There are bad areas in every city. I currently live in Sunnyvale and just recently seen a guy get stabbed right in front of my house. There have been at least three shootings in the last year here. This is all from an area that cost about $1900 a month to live and has great schools. The main thing to remember is if you don't go looking for trouble and you are prepared, you won't have any issues. I grew up in Southwest Detroit so nothing is going to be as bad as that.

Ripon is nice, and close,so is Escalon, both small towns.

Valley Springs area is a 30-40min country drive up in the foot hills next to a few lakes, and out of the fog. But it's more of a country small town thing. I see deer running around all the time up there.

There are lots of nice areas to live around Stockton and have short commute to work. Traffic is nothing like you would see in So. Cal. I have many friends that work in Stockton and live in Modesto, Ripon, and Manteca.

Check out Jackson Ca its a little further from stockton but an easy commute. Im in San Andreas. Its a dumpy little town but if you find some land out of town you will be good. Im with in a stones throw of hogan, Comanche, melones, lake pardee and amador. Fishing is awesome. Great big bucks up here in D5. If you drive a bit you can be at some beautiful high mountain lakes and streams.

Look me up when you get here.

Stockton is a toilet along with manteca lodi and most of the I-5 corridor until you get north of sacramento. That said, Manteca is not far from some really quite nice neighborhoods.

You could do western Tracy or Mountain House and be within easy commute distance and still have the lower housing costs. Tracy's worst areas aren't quite as bad as almost any of L.A.'s areas.

You could also grab a place up the hills a bit.

Well, I spoke with my wife about it and I don't think the company will go for the relo package hat we would need to make the move make sense for us.

The office is north east of Stockton so the commute from Ione would be rough. Discovery bay looks nice but if you want to be on the water, the prices are a bit higher than I want to spend.

I'll let them know the details of what I need to move and see if they are that desperate to get me up there but I'm not holding my breath at this point.

Looks like a lot of alfalfa, do the farmers let you hunt upland game birds?

Isleton, Walnut Grove, Rio Vista or the Delta loop are close and fairly inexpensive.

Yes please do not move to Stockton. That's all we need is more out of towners trying to spruce up the place.

I believe you will find the hunting and fishing opportunities much greater than you have in SoCal.

As has been mentioned you don't have to live in Stockton, plenty of other burgs close by not to mention all the country and foothill locations.

I've hunted ducks, geese, pheasants, dove, deer, quail, squirrels and just about every other game animal you can think of within one hour of Stockton over the last 30years. Not to mention all the fishing.

I've lived and worked all over NorCal the last 40 years and crime is where you find it.

Currently live four blocks away from the University of the Pacific in the Tuxedo Park Area.

I'm assuming based on your posts that the Office is located in Spanos Park?

Good luck and if you have any specific questions feel free to pm me.
