Why the hell do I never catch anything

I can never seem to catch anything be it at the lake or on the coast. When fishing for bass I use all the stuff for bass and when I fish in the salt water I use squid. I have caught stuff with squid before. What the hell am I doing wrong ? I love being out there but would like it if I could catch something as well

I had the same problem and found that I was hooking the squid on my leader wrong and the leader was getting wrapped around my mainline (you should run the hook through the eyes). The deckhand showed me the problem. Very subtle. You should as the deckhands for help - they are very knowledgable.

Do you have a trolling motor? Are you fishing with music/radio on?

My coworkers and i charted a fishing boat a few years ago. 10 of us paid about 350-400$ each for a 3 day fishing trip. Only 3 of us caught anything. Most expensive fishing trip ever.

Are you wearing cologne/deodorant/sunblock/lotion/shave cream/hand soap? All of these things can leave trace scents on your hands that could transfer to the line/lure and be off putting for fish.

I fish from the coast line or the lake front not usually on a boat. But all the people around our group catch stuff just not us.

go down to lighter lines. Get some fresh lines first. If 10 lb's not working, try 8 or 6. Split shot'n. Scale down your lures, go down to 4in or smaller hand pour plastics. Good luck and keep on try'n

                  Best advice yet.
I live up in the high country, and Im an avid fisherman..
Before I moved to California, I was a pretty darn good catcher, but up here for a few years I really had some issues.

Dropped my line weight, dropped my lure size, started really working on my presentation and I found my groove again.

Then as soon as I did, the drought hit up here, so all my stream fishing has dried up!

My brother Fredo used to to swear by saying a Hail Mary before he put his line in the water...

and what do you know ...

he would catch the most fish.

I miss Fredo, he was like a brother to me.

                    he's missing now,

                    maybe he's hiding in Cuba...
the whole family and the syndicate is not sure where he might be...

but wherever he is, I hope there are fish there.

                    ;-)

Two most important things to catching and not fishing are:

                        You need the right bait.

You need to put the bait were the fish are.

10% of the fishermen catch 90% of the fish. Make some new buddies on the fishing forums and learn how to properly fish. It's skill not luck. Be prepared to bring sando's and pay for gas and a lot of guys will show you the ropes.

The full length dust cover rail makes a world of difference in the "when I run out of bullets I'm going to beat you to death with the pistol" look that causes bad guys to run in fear, and lesser men to feel inadequate. It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!
