Never seen a single squirrel around Modesto nut farms.

At my crib in Los Altos we have a few Oak trees and a zillion squirrels.

At my former Los Altos house we had a Walnut tree and ONE DAY before I was gonna harvest some to try to roast them, the squirrels stole EVERY SINGLE walnut in one day and stashed them all, never to be seen again.

Around Modesto it is NOTHING but nut trees, yet not a single squirrel.

How did they wipe them out?, and keep them wiped out, because I imagine there are enough Oaks close enough to form a 'bridge' from squirrel heavy areas.

We have more hawks and owls in Los Altos than I've yet to see 'out in the country' around Modesto.

At our house they come in waves. At our place we have 4 walnut trees, 2 pecan trees, and 4 oak trees. They seem to binge, stock up, and they'll seem gone for a month or more sometimes. I spent 3 hours last weekend and got 6 tree rats and 2 greys. I hadn't even seen one squirrel between last weekend and this past labor day.
    I fly everywhere backwards.

Almond farmers poison the crap out of them .With the right licence they can get some strong stuff.

Nice racks are much better. You can grab both sides of the rack to help stabilize while mounting.

I see what must be harvesting going on, so the nuts must be 'ripe' but still no squirrels. Been around for a couple months.

But the farming is pretty Mono-culture.

Kinda figured, how is it applied? I drove through a few artificial fog banks a month or so ago.

In the walnut orchards where I live the ranchers use easy to build white PVC "tees" filled with granular poison.

One poison is for bait station the other you just throw a hand full in a hole. The fog bank you see might be them spraying trees or just plain old fog.
You can still find places that are over run with squirrels you just have to drive around and ask.

Phostoxin and Fumitoxin. That along with various poison baits and traps.

Need to be a licensed pest control applicator or know a farmer or two.

                        They all employ this guy:
"The only thing necessary for the triumph [of evil] is for good men to do nothing." Edmund Burke speech of 23 April 1770, "Thoughts on the Cause of the Present Discontents," delivered to the House of Commons.
