    Beginning Hog hunt question...

A quick question on hog hunts... What is the best season to go out for them? I get mixed answers and reasons why, and I think a lot of it is regurgitating what people have heard, so I thought I would ask you pros.
Also, without giving up your spots, whats a good county in Northern California for them? Ive heard around Redding is pretty good, and up by Clear Lake as well.

lake county, redding, redbluff area has hogs. I can't speak for the public access around there I hunt in central california. But with all public land hunting people's secret honey holes are secret because they don't tell people where they are. Your best bet is knowing somone who owns private land or somone who has access to private land that holds hogs. For many its a life time effort to find such a situation. There are also many hunting guides up that way. For most people it is cheaper to spend the money on a guide then make numerous trips to public land and never see a thing. I know a few guides up that way if you need a reference.

But to answer your question about best time of the year, it's more of a question of where. If you have access to private land it can be almost anytime of the year depending on what the private land offers to the hogs. On public land I tell everyone to hunt hogs in the wetter, greener months when there is food and water everywhere. The hogs are more likely to travel off of private land in the winter.

Thank you sir! Is it true about seasons? Ive been told the meat quality and chances of parasites are worse around this time of year and to go closer to December... is that right?

Thanks BBS for the info, I guess it's time to start scouting on the weekends, luckily said areas aren't too far. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
