    Recommend a Duck Guide

I really want to try some ducks. I've done a little upland bird hunting and really enjoy it. Also, 1,000s of clays have met the terror of my Saturday morning barrels. I looked into the NWR hunting and for a newbie - doesn't look too inviting...especially without a dog.

Ok, no duck experience, no dog. Looking for a reputable guide to take my son and I out, show us the ropes and get a few ducks. Who might you recommend?

We're very good with the guns, as easily illustrated by the clays that quiver in fear as I walk past the Walmart box.... and willing to work at whatever is needed. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks all!

DU talks about the Central Valley in CA as being one the best spots in North America in the Nov-Jan season.

                    ><

Hunting ducks on a NWR with no dog is not a hardship....done it for many yaers. The ponds are not deep, knee to belt is the norm. Finding birds is a chalange at times without a dog but again its not a game changer.

I have hunted with dogs that did more bad to the hunt then good....but as a guest you play along and take it as it comes

Go have fun....the more you go to the same refuge the better your hunts get through knowlage of the lay of the land. Take time to roam around after each hunt to find new spots
