"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" [Matt 28:19]

I thought at one time I read that the average criminal commits over 100 felonys per one conviction. I guess it really depends on what type and im sure some people commit one and get nailed. But somebody with two arrests only means theve been caught twice. Makes me wonder what else the guy has stolen.

CG Members........why do we even bother trying to answer the OP's question when it's clear that he isn't interested in what we have say unless it validates what he wants to hear?
Many of us try to share our experiences and knowledge in answering the many questions that are posed daily on these forums. Personally, I've benefitted from the many responses I've received to questions I've asked. There are many of you that have been spot on with your answers with facts, while others like me like to share our experiences in hopes that it helps the OP in his or her decision making.
However, in this situation, the OP has a buddy who is a felon and cannot be in possession of any firearms, yet, asks CG members questions about his friend violating his probation if he were to accompany him as a hunting partner. Just about every response back to the OP mentioned the risk to the "friend" and the OP if it were determined that somehow he violated his probation when accompanied as a hunting partner. I thought what was said was sound advise, especially the responses that had to do with "the risk to the OP". Personally, I don't care who the OP associates himself with, that's his decision; however, when he asks for advise but chooses not to only disregard the advise, but then get's pissed at the person responding, that tends to tick me off. Maybe the response we should have given was that if the OP wants to risk his right to own or possess firearms and his rights to hunt with firearms, then go right ahead and bring his friend along. Obviously, since his friend is a convicted felon, the guy really doesn't care about following the same laws as most citizens do on a daily basis. Personally, I'm not going to put myself in a situation in which there is no benefit to me, but rather great risk on my part. If you sleep with dogs, don't complain when you wake up with fleas.Comment

No judgements on your buddy, but I think it would be wise to consider his freedom in total, his guidelines for his probation, including penalties for possession of a firearm by a felon; and then consider this in regards to potential encounters with LE.
He doesn't know the mindset of the LEO he may encounter. that person will wield great power in his pending freedom.
Regardless of whether or not he had possession, remember this one thought when dealing with law enforcement.

I have no comment on this actual topic but found what you've said to be a common occurrence.Originally posted by jmonte35Disagree. Been trying to teach lewdogg21 how to hunt. It's like trying to teach Steve Wonder how to see. Not sure we're ever going to get there.Comment

I've noticed that what your saying applies to lots of topics here on calguns and I'm not sure why we get so many OP's who do this. I wouldn't think it's a California thing but maybe I'm wrong. I do know that in general people are nicer outside of CA than in it. I can't say either way if that has anything to do with it or not.

Noggles lose the rectal cranial inversion.
Noggles,
You have never met BWE and have no idea who he is. I have met him, he is USMC vet, and a hardworking family guy. Friends are friends, people make mistakes. If the guy is trying to make his life right good for him.
He asked for advice, not your moronic apologist comment. So unless you can offer something substantive ZIP IT. A2Comment

Noggles made an inflammatory comment but there's nothing moronic about it....
Felony Burglar constitutes a strike in Ca, serious conviction, that's way more than a mistake, friends are friends until they cross lines like that, with that being said there would be a much greater chance of this guy generating a second strike by participating in a sport like this verses going to the batting cages. With the recidivism rate around 75% for convicts this guys chances of staying out are very much against him, I hope he values the OP's friendship and follows his foot steps so to speak. If it were me, just my opinion, I would find other things to do with the guy, murphy's law is a b-i-t-c-h!Comment

A felon only loses his ability to have a firearm. A bow or crossbow is not a firearm is they can legally hunt game with archery and crossbow equipment. They are even allowed to use an air gun.
An older guy i know runs hounds on fox. He uses an $800 air rifle to take his fox.Hand made predator calls made to order available now PM me for details.Comment

I think what happens on forums is that the context of the actual print can be easily misconstrued in a different way.
If i type something here and then perhaps talk to someone in person it is taken in a completely different tone.
I think a couple people here have witnessed this. (at least with myself)Comment

Don@Tahoe
Don,
I agree and understand what BWE's friend did, and its implications. But all BWE wanted to know was whether or not his friend could accompany him in the field. While BWE was armed, that is it. Not whether his friend was a loser, not what a felony means to you, me or Noggles. Plain and simple. A2Comment

You're exactly right, I was simply looking for the yes or no answer of "could he accompany me or not?". There certainly are a vast number of things that could make something perfectly legal go south, I believe that's true of any situation. As a marine, a husband, father, and business owner, I certainly have a solid grasp on risk assessment, and am comfortable making decisions based on my understanding of my exposure to risk. I also have a good friend who's made a couple stupid decisions. Could he make more in the future? Sure. Does the fact that he did in the past mean he will again? No. That applies to all of us though.
Also, for the record (if it matters) he did not "earn" a strike for the burglary.Comment
