    Trout problems

I went fishing last weekend and caught NADA. I was using the same set up I was using last summer around this time and I was limiting out on bows.
    What was a doing wrong?
My set up was 4lb line, 1/4" slide singer, 12 swivel about 12-16" leader with a half inflated night crawler and a power egg to keep it on and for smell. Then I did just the worm, then I did just the power eggs, then I tried nice tails, nothing except a damn blue gill. I was fishing the same pockets I always have.

That all sounds like a winning recipe. However there has been a hatch going on. So you might be better off working the top water. Do you fly fish?

That is why they call it fishing not catching.

The last three times we have gone to our lake not a single hit on crawlers inflated or not. We have been hitting them on gulp eggs not the power bait. Funny also some days one color works others another.

          Truth hahah
Pink was smashing them last year, nothing this year so at bass pro yesterday I saw they had half pink, half glittery, garlic scented so I'll try those next time I go up there

Even at the same spot day after day the fish bite on different bait.
Last week at lake Mary I caught limit using 4-6lb line with a 2-3' 2lb leader with clear bobber, #14-20 treble mustard hooks and salmon eggs.
Next day same spot, same bait, and nothing, nada, zero, zilch.
The day after I went to lake George. Tried everything, and only nibbles. I did hook one but it was small and I released it.
I tried lures, power bait, night crawlers, live worms and blow up ones, eggs and marshmallow. Finally switched to flies and still no bites.
I also almost always release my first catch if the day to appease the fish gods. Sometimes it works...sometimes it doesn't.

In my lifetime, I've probably spent hundreds of days fishing without catching anything. I finally realized that I should stop fishing in my bathtub and go to a trout farm where I am guaranteed fish. Come on, think about it. If the fish aren't biting, they just aren't biting. sometimes you can find something else that works. Try different bait, lures and flies. Also, maybe the fish just were not hanging out where you were fishing. Is this really that hard to understand?

Warmer water temp is bad for fishing... As can be keeping hidden in bright sun

I understand, I'm asking if there's something I'm doing wrong. Maybe it's the wrong time for fishing off the bottom like hoshnasi was saying, or if I just got lucky this weekend, but it seems like I'm not the only one with trout troubles hahah. I guess it's time to start learning to fish for bass now! Oh and the lake was White pines lake by Arnold, CA. Drove 3 hours to catch a buzz. So all in all not to bad but I still would like to have caught something hahaha

Is the lake way lower than last year? If so the trout may be somewhere else. Also if you were catching planters last year maybe the plant truck hadn't been there in a few weeks.

If you want to get planters there is a link on dfg website which tells you when they are planting where.

Fish can be FINIKY as all get out...A slight change in anything (weather, clouds, hatch, etc.) can cause fish to be on or OFF!
One of my daughter's is really struggling with this. She has had nibbles & bites, but has not landed a fish yet this summer. It's driving her nuts! I just remind her that we get to spend another day on a beautiful lake and try again in a few days or next weekend.

Go back and hit it again!

That's just fishing. Sometimes they are biting and sometimes they aren't.

Last summer we had different weather so that will change a lot of things. Is the place you fished stocked? Maybe it wasn't stocked like last year. The list of reasons goes on and on. Moon phase, hatches, bug life, water temp, so many variables. I have had days where I caught a ton of fish in one spot, then the very next day there were no fish there to be caught.

Days like those are when a DuPont spinner is needed! Problem is they aren't legal most places any more

OP, its getting hot out!!! You gotta start going deep. Trout don't like warm water.
