well i am a fisherman and i am curious about tenkara fishing. it seems to be a rather pure form.

i notice that the hackles on what are advertised as "tenkara" flies are oddly swept forward. is this a sub surface fly? f that , lifes too short.

are there specific flies for tenkara? why?

i tie a mean grizzly adams parachute with mylar wings, is there something about this disipline that would make me want to use special flies?

It is a type of emerger, hackles float on top while the hook hangs below.



And yes those are knock offs. If you buy Tenkara, go to Tenkara USA for the real thing.

I love Tenkara fishing, it is so simplistic.

one last thing don't worry about using the right knots and flies just about anything will work.

My dad has used ruber worms and trout spinners to sucess.

I have used little rubber frogs for Bass and blue gill

I've had good luck from a boat....yes you can Tenkara sitting in a boat with a pole in one hand and a beer in the other!

soul, thanks for the additional input on tenkara. this thing has piqued my interest.

in particular i notice the line is very different, obviously not a floating line but it wouldn't need to be huh?

any reason why braid wouldn't work just as well? i guess what i'm asking is "is it just string" or is there something important with the nature of the line?
