    3/4 day Coronado Islands Trip

I'm heading out on a day trip out to Coronado Islands tomorrow. Looks like mostly rockfish are biting. About 1/4 of the day's catch seems to be yellowtail. Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones and can grab a few of those.

Best of all, this trip is free. I'm stoked. We're departing from the San Diego bay at 5:30 a.m. and returning around 6 p.m.

Good luck out there, hope the yellows bite. I know they had some great runs a couple weeks ago. I like yo-yoing for early season yellowtails as they produce some bruisers that fight like crazy. I like fishing for yellowtails and tunas but prefer eating rock and lings.

Please tell us how it goes, conditions and all.

I'm definitely interested in hearing the details... I've mostly been doing twilight's out of Long Beach (a couple outfits).

I really would like to go catch something bigger including Yellows... I've never done anything bigger than Sculpin and Sand Bass.

You can get into some serious bass action at the island. Calico bass are big out there and fight like monsters.

Watch out for those panga boats motoring northward to SD's beaches.

I think actually... I might head to San Diego tonight. Old Glory is heading out for Yellowtail, Yellowfin and Bluefin.

I just need to get another rod/reel outfit strung for 40lb line I suppose. Anyone down for hitting San Diego with me tonight?

I went out with someone I work with. A guy from H and M landing came to our work and gave us free passes because he wants to set up a rewards program (like we refer to people to him and he gives us free trips of something like that).

It was a fun trip. Overall, the boat did horrible. No one caught any yellowtail or yellow/bluefin. The captain found a few schools but was having trouble getting in the right position. He also said that the bite wasn't great because there was no currents (I'm not sure what that means).

Me and my buddy did good. We were the only ones on the boat to actually catch anything. I got six fish, and he got five. I got two salmon groupers, two sculpins, a scorpion fish, and a rockfish. I'm really bummin I didn't get any yellowtail, but I brought home a good 10 pounds of fish so I can't complain. It was a fun day.

Glad that was free. We use jigs the size of those salmon groupers up here. Even the seasick guys leave with a limit. Still beats a day at the office.

Where is "up here"? What do you go for with those big jigs?

But ya before I made my reservation, the guy at HM told me that they hadn't had any luck with YT recently and that I should probably wait a couple weeks if I wanted to catch them. I was too excited tho and decided to test my luck. I'm going to do another one of these trips after the YT or tuna starts hitting again tho.
