Anyone have any fishing tips for Lake Britton?

I am going to Burney Falls in June for 4 days and looking for any fishing tips at Lake Britton or nearby areas. I know the fishing up there is great in the rivers and streams.

I will be with my young boys, 5 and 7, and am an average fisherman at best. Looking for bait fishing ( not fly fishing) areas and am thinking about renting a boat on Lake Britton to go fishing.

I have been to Burney Falls before and have been on a few hikes around the falls, subway cave, fish hatchery, etc.

Also, any other "must sees" please send them my way!! Thanks!!

Can't go wrong with assorted colors of power bait and worms if you want to use bait. If you're fishing the incoming stream to the lake, maybe drift some salmon eggs as well.

If you decide to use lures, Panther Martins, Mepps, Blue Fox are all decent lures to throw. When your kids are older, the Pitt River is a really good place for trout too.

Its been a long time since I've been up there. I seem to recall a nice lake in Lassen NP that was close to a visitors center.
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Lake Britton is great for the kids. I would highly recommend renting a boat.Trout can be caught on powerbait and crawlers south/southeast of the boat launch along the shore and over by Damn#3, but if you want the kids to really have some fun hit the lake around 430pm or later as the sun is going down throw some red/white plastic crappie jigs around the boat dock and over where HWY89 pylons come down across the lake. The crappie hit those jigs and even though they are smaller fish they put up a fun fight for the kids.

If you are up after a plant, hit the stream above the falls and float salmon eggs or power bait. There is often a lot of snags, so use little or no weight. Another good place, especially with kids if its been stocked is Cassel. Google it. You can park across from the post office and walk in behind where the post office is. Its maybe a 15 minute drive from the falls. I've been going up there since I was a kid and now enjoy bringing my kids up there. Have fun.

ProblemChild- that's a great tip on bait and locale.

I will definitely be giving the post office a visit!

I think Baum lake usually has some good results as well.

Britton is usually slammed with power boats... If you have a boat or the means to rent one, I'd take it out to the cove where Burney creek dumps out into the lake. Throw lures and pretty much any bait and you've got a very good shot at the trout and crappy out there.

I've seen guys catch limits of crappy of spinner bait lures just from shore there by the dock too. Easy for kids.

The other spot is go and fish Burney creek ABOVE the falls. Start around the bridge and work your way up to the tide pool area... For this section use Salmon eggs and salmon egg hooks.... DO NOT USE anything else there. I'm telling you I know that creek like the back of my hand, I learned to fish as a kid there.

The other place is Hat Creek. There is a three mile section that is stocked and great for spin fishing... Same set up at Burney creek... Drive down 89 and the creek crosses 89 and is on the west side of the road there is a campground. From there heading south, for three miles that section is this stocked section. There are multiple campgrounds and pull outs that are perfect for you.
It goes until about the 89/44 junction.

It's from the Rocky campground to the 89/44 junction.

                            Skilletboy

Regarding burney creek when you say "fishing at the bridge above the falls" are you talking about fisher mans bridge at Burney Falls Park? So start there and hike down along the shore

Thanks for the map, where say that Hat Creek crosses 89, are you talking about the section between Rocky campground and CG campground? Sounds there's some good fishing spots from the shore?

Thanks again for the tips. This is my 3rd year going up there, I need to creat some excitement for the kids
