That's not a boot, that's a canoe. My son wears 15EEE. It looks like a bass boat with laces.

I may have to figure out where to try a set on. I went from Walmart to Red Wing doing a job that had me walking 12-15 miles a day during a startup in a massive building with stairs all over the place. Might need to upgrade one more time. I'll look into the Wesco boots as well.

Mike, try on as many boots as you can to see what works for your foot, if you can. Also only buy from a place you can return after wearing for a bit to see if they work or not.

I'm going to do exactly that after I get my orthotic. Flat feet suck.

Buy once cry once.......unless your a road hunter your boots are the most important gear on you. A few trips in the back country will make you see the light.
One life so don't blow it......Always die with your boots on!

I'm lucky, my old boots are still serviceable from when I was in the Marine Corps.

Unless you're going to get custom orthotics, I've never found any of the store brands to work well. I've always had better luck in finding boots that fit; and yes, I'm flat footed.

I went to Cabelas a couple years ago and tried on everything they had with no insulation as I needed a California A zone type boot (hells inferno hot).

I was amazed at how different boots from the same MFGR fit me differently. I found the Meindl air revolution to be the best fit and I love them. The only potential issue is that the soles aren't thick so I don't know how my feet would do walking on high country granite all day or packing out a big load but to be honest I haven't done either frequently enough to remember either one.

Basically I ponied up and spent (to me) big $ and found something that fit my foot like a glove. Based upon this experience I will probably never order boots online again unless it's a direct replacement for ones that I wore out. The reason being is I would have gone through probably 6-10 pairs before I settled on the ones I bought. Ironically the Meindel ultralight were way too wide for me for some reason. For my next pair of boots with insulation I will try the Lowa GTX and the ones pie is talking about. It's possible neither of them will fit me right so I will be sure to buy them from a place with a good return policy.

We see a lot of gear discussions in here but really the most important thing you can have is good boots. I have flat and I guess somewhat narrow feet.

Best recommendation I can give is to get your boots custom made if you foot is in any way outside the industry norms. Will cost more but in the end it is worth it. I was going through Red Wing logger boots in 6-9 months with 7 day a week wear to about 2 years with my custom fit Westcos. Then again I only wear Logger style boots. Tennis shoes hurt my back and my knees.

Lowa makes great boots and they aren't terribly priced, most can be had for around 180-220. I have worn these for a 5 day period and I literally never took them off my feet with the exception of one sock change and my feet were fine. It's like walking on clouds, and I normally move across bad terrain with a lot of weight on my back.

I wore size 15s when I was 15. 17s now. Currently saving up for either White's or Wescos.

How do I get fitted for these? Or do I order them and hope I got the right ones?

Go to REI (or other superfeet retailer) and try on a pair. I wear 10.5 boots, the 9.5-11 work perfect for me, no adjustment, trimming, etc. needed.

Follow the link below to find a retailer that carries them.

Discover Superfeet insoles & inserts designed to improve foot health & comfort. Enjoy better support, stability & alignment for all activities.

                              Good luck!

As I am a personal trainer who's wife is a physical therapist, the way we think about inserts is that they are a temporary fix. We use them for patients to get out of acute pain, then wean them off of them as soon as possible. We fix the problem of why do they need inserts- which is typically flat arches. Use them for now, then get a professional to diagnose the problem.
