    Coleman Water Jug Fix

Just got back from Idaho after two weeks on the hunt, and have a few items to repair and fix before I put them away for the winter. This little part broke off one of five Coleman water jugs I carry into camp and now creates a nice water trail in the back of the truck for a couple hundred miles. Its the hole which allows the jug to vent when inverted.

    I know its only a $10 jug.......

I know I should just go to Big 5 and replace it.....

Any suggestions on something which may work would be appreciated.

Insert a stainless steel bolt. It should self-thread into the plastic with just a little pressure. I put one in the plastic 5 gallon gas can I use for used motor oil. The SS Bolt has worked fine now for over ten years.

You already have 2 very good answers.

I'll tell you this though: I've had 2 of those and my buddy had one and all 3 had the same problem after 3 years. The valve breaks. It becomes stiff and either starts leaking or the handle breaks.

I just use military water jugs now. I used to think they were a pain to pour from. Now I got over it. <shrug>

Ya, the old valves become brittle that's for sure. I noticed the new mods have a different, almost rubber, vent plug.

Exactly. Or if you're too cheap for that, like me, sharpen a stick with your pocketknife.

faux cork from a wine bottle shaved down.

For the five bucks to replace it I can get another water jug at the flea market.

Slide an "O" ring on that bolt and it won't leak either!
