Equivalency exam

Has anyone taken the equivalency exam?
I'm taking it tomorrow at 9:00 and I'm not sure what to expect, the guy I talked to at the DFG office said 90% of the people who take it fail.

I know rules and regs, but I'm still a little unsure.

Most are surprised at the breadth of topics. Also realize that the problem with that approach is that to hunt out of state you will often need a Hunter Education certificate. The equivalency exam is not an acceptable replacement.

The equivalency exam is more difficult than the Hunter Education exams.

Why are you taking this? It serves no purpose if you ever want to hunt out of state. Thats my understanding anyway.

It's good in some states, but in the other state I hunt in I don't have to have a license as I'm hunting on my own property.

I PM'd another member who took the test a while ago, he said there are a lot more archery and blackpowder questions than you'd think, so that's what I'm gonna study after I'm out of class.

In this state it isn't, but in the free state of MS it's the law (as long as the title is in my name)

You didn't make it clear that you were not hunting your own property in CA

I took hunters safety back in 1985. My hunters safety certificate, which was the size of a 3x5 card if I remember right, is long lost. I have been showing a previous years license for years now. If I want to hunt out of state, will I need to take hunters safety again? I hunted in Oregon when my brother lived there in 2005, and he was able to purchase my non-resident license over the counter without me even there.

Generally yes. Many experienced hunters end up repeating hunter ed for that reason.

If you are missing your hunter ed certificate:
1) Contact DFW and see if they have a record of your class. If so, they can issue a replacement.
2) Otherwise, try to find the instructor that you took the class from. If they have their records, they can issue a replacement. In some cases, the records will be handed down to follow-on instructors. So if the instructor is not available, you might want to start asking around where you took the class and see if anyone has the old records.

If none of that works, you end up retaking the Hunter Education class to get certified again.

I think you have to live there too, not just have your name on he deed. I hunt MS too and it aint free like it use to be. This law writte in the MSFW Regulations I guess we could look up it up because I might have it mixed up with LA'sRegulations, I own land and hunt there too.

There are only a slim FEW, that have been instructors for 25 years or more, i think I can count them on my hands, and have a few fingers left for blaming someone
