Hunter or Road Hunter?

I'm not a hunter but I though it wasn't legal to shoot from a road or across a road. Is this only true on "county maintained roads" and not Forest service roads?

Sorry road hunter no better then drive by gang bangers. I had this spot where I could watch down valley and see road. My god I counted 6 trucks every hour. Some repeated yes but all wild life ran after first one. I guess you can always get lucky and run one down. But really what point no better then flash jacking deer. No sport and should be out law you makeing hunters look bad. And missing point

Getting out and walking about. Were ever you want, as slow as you want,and as far as you want. It's just so amazingly beautiful and interesting.
I'M 52 years old,and have been hunting for 6 years . I'm blessed with a capable and sound body, so I can get out and hunt. Hunting has enabled me to see so much of God's masterpiece He created. Hunting encourages and helps me to stay fit. I'm very grateful to be able to do it. I would not be able to say the same thing if I only road hunted.
Sure it's harder. Yes when I've been successful it has meant packing out the meat. Another time it meant a long drag out back to the truck (thank God for radio's and friends). I look forward to it all year, and I still had a hard time sleeping last night thinking about this morning's hunt.

Depends on where I'm hunting. If it has a lot of pressure then I would get as far from a road as possible. If there is zero or low pressure I will road hunt to cover as much land as possible this would include a lot of glassing and I am more likely to kill one I glasses up a mile or two away then to shoot one off the road.

A. 98% percent of the time you drive to an area where your going to hunt.
B. Once you get onto that dirt road, I know your already looking for something to bust out, or on a hill.

I take it as an opportunity to scout and find areas to hike into. You betcha when I'm driving around I'm hunting. I only do this after I return back to camp after the morning hunt. There are so many roads that one has to drive it to find areas so that makes me a road hunter as well.

I road hunt to the trail head then park the truck and hike in from there. I like to sit near the top of the hill and watch the valleys.

Who you calling a city slicker stop being all high and mighty.I bet if your on a forestry road and a big buck is standing off to the side your going to get out and shoot.

No I don't I have passed on many large bucks when driving. I hunt for sport not because can kill it. pass on small bucks too. Many here have shown pictures of how happy with there 90lbs fork buck.
Sorry but woopie like it hard to trick a child. If its couple hundred lbs and 4x4 or bigger you got something.


But sorry not all hunters hunt to fill some need to kill small easy targets. Some of us enjoy getting I'm touch with nature watch the packs travel and makeing sure there plenty for future generation to enjoy.

But feel free drive up and down dirt roads and wonder where all deer are. I can to to Wal-Mart buy meat for less. Like I said your missing point of the hunt.

This. If I have access to a large piece of private land or where the animals aren't pounded road hunting can be a tremendous way to locate them. Why do you guys think the window sill on your truck makes such a good rest for elbows holding binoculars?

With a good pair of binos and a 20x60 spotting scope I can drive 10or 20 miles of road in a evenings hunt and scope valleys, hills and mountains miles out. How many more animals will I see than a guy who spends an evening hunt in one canyon?

Nope, road hunting is for lazy bums. Only real way to hunt is by pounding sand/laying in wait in high animal traffic zones.

I know of a lot of places where the road IS the game super highway. It is pressure that drives an animal to change its habits.

To chastise another person that May or may not be able to get out and hike for days for road hunting is being a hypocrite. I can guarantee that when you hit that designated legal hunting area, you loading up your rifle (chamber empty) and ready for the slight opportunity to fill your tag.
This is no different than our for fathers traversing the country on horseback or in covered wagons following the game trails(roads) looking for game while in route to their destination.
In closing, I can guarantee that on the final days of your deer season with tag soup looking like another seasons reality, that legal buck pops it head up thirty yards from the road that your headed home on, YOUR GOING TO TAKE THAT SHOT! It will take an extremely strong will not to, or your just not into it that much.

Why would you sit watching a valley with a road in it and then complain about people driving on that road?

I've seen 9 bucks in the last two years from my jeep. All while enjoying my time off work, drinking coffee and eating snacks. I hike too but I'll bet I've shot more deer I've seen from the road than many of you have from the backcountry. Whether you road hunt or back pack in, it doesn't make you a superior person to others. Let's just get along and enjoy talking hunting.

You act like only place I ever hunted. Also when your up mountain watching valley with medows and deer. You don't care there road. My point that you missed is there a lot of you doing it. And after first truck most of the deer leave the area. hell iI can here diesel truck mile out. And I follow them out. Like I said I watch where they go. What there habits are.

And to the whole picture thing when I'm driving they never seem stay put long enough get pictures but yet they seem stand there long enough to shoot? Hmmm.

And no I don't bring camera hunting. No need to. so i can prove to people online something that its become obvious there not change there mine about.

If you road hunt it say lot about your personality and most that do think there way fine and won't change.
Even your hunter class say its bs way to hunt.
it take work to hunt out side your truck.God forbid you get exercise or not get deer.
Not like it only sorce of food. Obviously.
