What range are you hunting, bow or just rifle?
For all purpose, a used Leica LRF 1200 you can get them around $300-350 Ebay.

Best of the best is Swarovski.

Do your own due diligence and nothing beats going to a Bass Pro Shop and trying out for yourself.

I recently bought a Nikon Prostaff 3 Its a 6x21 with a range of 550 yards but I haven't gotten a range greater than 443 yards so I thinks 450 yards is more accurate.

It doesn't do incline decline but I found that at 100 yards the incline/decline was only 2-3 yards with about a 15 degree angle.. I also only plan to shoot out to 200 yards so it wasn't going to make much difference for me.

I got it on sale for $149 but Dicks Sporting Goods has then for $149 reg price and a week ago they were on sale for $119.

I also meant to buy it from Dicks, I had it in the cart ready to buy and got distracted by my kids. I got back to the computer the next day and the price had gone back up. I like the clarity of the Nikon so I bought it anyway. I had looked at several before buying it.

                I have the Swarovski.

Go someplace that you can try them out, I have found that some don't fit my hand well and are difficult to aim.

Think I'm going to pick up the Leupold RX800i with tbr. I was leaning toward the 1000i but being color blind the red reticle is a little harder to pick up for me. Upgrading from a Nikon prostaff 3 550.

                      Leupold.... you'll be sooooooorry.

I've field tested Bushnell, Leupold, Leica and Swarovski, if your strapped for cash get the Bushnell it's very good. To me, best bang for the buck (where you won't upgrade a couple of years later) is Leica. Distance wise the Swaro may reach out to 1,700 yards but the Leica ranges faster, very simple to use and half the weight. I have the older model crf 1000 and I've been able to acquire objects up to 1,300+ yards, plenty for my needs. The Swaro may have 1x more (no advantage) and 30mm object vs 24mm but that's what my bino's are for.

I have tried a lot of rangefinders and they all work very well in low light conditions.
If its raining snowing are sunny none of them are worth a pile of beans.
If your max range is 600 yards get a 800 yard or more rangefinder.
If you only hunt on dark cloudy days most will range farther than advertised.
                        I have a barely used Leica 800 for $250

I owned the Leupold,"Boone and Crocket" model and hated it...the optics sucked... made in china too.it range finded terrific btw...you just couldn't see through it good due to the greenish lense coating.sold it.

I own an older Leica now (LRF900 scan) and really like it... it ranges quick!and longer than its rated for...1000ish yards.

That being said...I really like my buddies Swarovski.has better (slightly brighter) optics.

***I love and own many Leupold scopes btw...just the glass in the range finder wasn't any good.they sent me a second one to try and it was just as bad.I'm kinda optic picky***

just tried out my simmons LRF600 today. It worked great.
I have to hook up with my other hunting buddies to compare ranges from thier rangefinders, but this one worked great today.
The only issue I had today was trying to range out a hill that was far away. It took about 4 tries and then it said 537 yds.
Everything else ranged out within a second and was repeatable.

                            Not me:
