Fishing in Pt. Mugu

We are heading to Pt. Mugu to fish at the end of the month.
Last time we went there, got nothing...not even a bite.
I don't want to frustrate my son again so I'm doing some research.
Any tips, rigs, bait, time of the day info you want to share, so we would not end end with nothing again/

I personally have no experience shore fishing there, but i am a very avid shore fisherman down south, so i cant tell you where to fish, but i can give you some rules of thumb. i dont mean to insult your intelligence or preach to the choir by any means so if you already take this stuff into consideration i appologize. things i always think about are:
tide- and incoming tide is ideal, the incoming tide breaks loose little things that fish feed on and attract more fish
cover- ocean fish are like freshwater fish, they like to sit and ambush their prey too, the edges of weedbeds often hold various species of bass
solunar tables- these really do matter, check the tables to see when prime times are and bounce the times off the tide chart, peak times with and incoming tide are great fishing times!!
as far your rig, well it depends on what your fishing for... if your just doing a bait and wait, a simple surf leader rig it just fine, heavy weight (at least 1oz) with a leader about a foot up the line around 6 inches long is good, otherwise, pick your lure depending on what your fishing for
