    Getting started

    Hey everyone,
Im interested in getting started hunting. I have a long history of backpacking and camping, and ive shot a decent amount of rifles in my time, and consider myself a fair shot. I bought myself my first rifle (a savage 111 in 25-.06 that i put a zeiss conquest 3-9x44 on) at the beginning of December, and i have gotten to the point where i am confident in shooting ability with it. I get around 5 inch groups at 300 yards. I am interested in learning more about hunting, particularly deer, so if anyone would be interested in showing me the ropes, is interested in a hunting partner, or even has any good articles on the subject please let me know.

    Hi Robert,

A good starting point is this thread

If you haven't already you will need to take your hunters safety in order to get your license. The good part is you have enough time before deer season.

I'm in the same boat as you. I just finished my hunter's safety yesterday and only have a few things left to buy. I'm just debating on getting a licence now and chasing coyote and squirrel or waiting till June when the licenses renew

Thanks for the replies guys, i plan on doing the hunters saftey course within the next month. After that i havent decided if i should get wait until june to get my hunting license, or if i should get a license and a 10/22 and go get myself some bunnys in the meantime. Also i have read through the department of fish and game, as well as the BLM land website pretty well, so i think i know most of the legalities and regulations, now i feel i need to focus more on the practical aspects.

Except for Jacks and hares, bunnys are out of season until the beginning of July also. There's always pig hunting all-year found, but you'd need to pick up a pig tag.
