    getting a hunting license?

i'm 16 and gonna get my hunting license, i read on the dfg website that it is possible to go to the local dfg place and take a test without taking hunters ed, is there a age restriction? i have hunted before in mississippi (didn't need a license as it was family owned land) and i've been handling firearms for over 5 years so i'm confident i can pass the test.
also i can't find where the local dfg office is, anyone know where? i'm in san diego.

      Taco,

Since you are 16 there is no way around the course. And I have to add even if you have been hunting and handling firearms your whole life the class is still very informative and educational. Since your in San Diego look at this site to get your hunters ed: http://www.dougswildernessadventures.com/. For $20.00 its a great thing to do. Good Luck.

yep take the class, even if there were a way around in CA. it you must still have a hunter safety card to hunt out of state. (and after you get skunked in ca you will be looking to go out of state in a few years)

I had my hunters safety card from WY and had been hunting in WY 1980 -1986 but lost it in one of the many moves, I could have sighed a paper but that would have only been good for CA. I took the class again about 3 years ago and plan to take it again in 5 or so more years. (lots of stuff changes and every instructor is different)

I was so looking to go to Idaho this year but looks like work is going to get in the way ..... well next year.

thanks for the info guys, thanks for the link.
i have found out that the equivalency program the dfg has is only good for CA, so we might go to the class on the 2nd or 3rd if we still live in CA.

You don't have a choice take the class, and take your parents to take the class too.
If they dont have the hunters safety certificate they cant get a California hunting liscence.

I took the class in '78 and again in '05. Even though I'd been hunting in Ca for 27 years, I learned things from the second class. You've only been hunting for five years and already you think you know everything you need to? Just take the class.

Check website of Project 2000 range at El Cajon near Sycuan Casino, they usually have hunters education class scheduled over there.

I check P2krange website for you, they actually have a class scheduled for this month , it is on Sunday (2/10/13) .If you are interested give them a call (619)442-9971. You need to pre-register. Not sure how much is the fee now a days, but when I signed up my son a couple of years ago, is just 10 bucks.
