Lynn I met with Pat at GR last Sunday and the club seems to be very flexible. I liked what i saw and heard from them. WU seemed to show favoritism to senior members and wasn't flexable at all!

GR & WU have both unfortunately proven to have the same chronic issues, eg:

1,000 acre ranch with 10 hunters... During GENERAL deer season? Not too kosher IMO and sounds like an ND waiting to happen.

Look up either outfit on duck hunting chat forum - where a buddy of mine posted PICS showing the (unfavorable) conditions of their "top notch" hunting blinds.

Sorry Bossman - totally NOT trying to pee on your parade. Ultimately, if you see fit in your heart to join, than may you make the earth red with game animal blood!!

I was close to joining 2 seasons back, didn't have the money in the log run. Then, last season three separate guys I know joined. All good hunters, good guys who wouldn't complain for no good reason... They were all categorically disenfranchised and unhappy. All three provided picture / video evidence showing what appeared to me to be unfavorable conditions.

Worthy to note - same thing - the good ol boys from the GR / WU old guard ALWAYS seemed to fill tags & get good hunts. My friends? Relegated to basically 100 acres of land, which took a ritual & an act of congress to get their hunt dates on. They were all given the same response "hunting isn't guaranteed kills" etc...

                Ostrey
                I sent you a PM.
If your looking for some beautiful property were you will get a buck every three years and a pig about every second year that is what these ranches offer.
I hunt during the week and killed my bucks when I couldn't get a reservation and hunted public lands.
If you can't get on your ranch of choice opening weekend the 3-4 bucks on the ranch are all gone. The ranches are simply over hunted and all shot out.
They have a couple ranches that are 25,000 acres and are solid timber. The old drunk patrolling the property will tell you get out there and start hiking as the big bucks are hiding deep in the woods. You get this kind of BS all the time from someone trying to justify his job.
If your a city slicker and don't expect much it gives you a place to go.
I had one patrolman tell me they didn't want game hogs. They could raise the limit to 50 deer a day and it wouldn't matter as the ranches are all shot out.

I've been a WU member for about 5 years and while I've said good things about my experience in the past I am very much in agreement with LynnJr. I know this is a thread about Golden Ram, but since WU came up I figured it was open for discussion.

I'm probably going inactive with my WU membership this year for a few reasons, one of them being that the property caretakers are getting so bad and the process of getting a spot to hunt is becoming increasingly annoying.

One thing I haven't been able to figure out is why WU insists on using a phone in system to reserve properties rather than an online system where the database that the phone operators use is visible to all members and we just click on the open spots to reserve. I've come to the conclusion that the reason they use this archaic system is that it's the easiest way to play favorites with some members.

There's still some good in WU properties and I'm not cancelling my membership (inactive means I pay a small fee to keep my membership valid but I can't hunt for the year) I'm going to try using public lands in CA and other states and see how that stacks up success/cost wise with a WU membership.

If I don't have a lot more luck with public land, I'll probably reactive my WU membership. But LynnJr hit the nail on the head with WU's problems.

Second that Lynn. Former member years ago. It isn't what it appears to be.

WU has a lot of problems from the reviews I have seen about them including complaints with the BBB. I had the misfortune of meeting their sales rep Mike Drozen. This guy has to be the worst sales rep on the planet. He shows up 25 mins late and offers no apology. My wife and I then sit and listen to him drone on and on, and when I do offer feedback or observations I feel as if I am being dismissed somehow. The evening ends with his being upset that I would not commit to giving him any money what-so-ever and wanting to discuss membership with my wife. He tells me flat out that if I don't call him and apply within 48 hrs that membership will be full up and closed to me and my family forever. He then turns his back on me and my wife and makes a bee line for the door. Never even gives me the common courtesy of a thank you or a handshake. I have never felt so disrespected in my life. If this is their way of conducting business with prospective new members, I would hate to see how they treat a member with a problem. I'll take my chances on public land and/or approaching land owners
