What's the most popular coyote round?

Looking to get a dedicated coyote rifle. Any suggestions as to caliber and rifle make/model?

    Thanks!

.223 AR platform has killed more coyotes for me than my other rifles which were:

    - Savage Model 12BVSS in 223; obscenely accurate & deadly
    - Remington 887 with 3in #4 buckshot (54 copper played pellets)

Overall, I did a lot (far too much) coyote hunting in North East New Mexico & S

ar 10 in .308 or ar 15 in 6.8 spc then you can hunt deer/ hogs and exotics. With .308 elk. If you have the money m1a. If on a budget bolt action .308 or min 22-250

Edit - and south west Colorado. Cool thing is the host of "Predator Nation" Fred Eichler lived in the next town (Trinidad, Colorado). He talked with me for nearly an hour one day & confirmed my methods were solid, a great affirmation. LOL

Most common rounds I've seen used:
        -223
        - 22/250
        -243
        - Shotgun & #4 buck

If you have an AR, coupled with an optic that suits your shooting ability, it is an amazing coyote smasher. Otherwise, I'd toss in a vote for a Savage + accutrigger combo

Specific to coyotes, I've seen the following platforms used quite extensively:
        - Howa Ranchland
        - Howa Axiom
        - Model 700 varmint models

Anyhow, predator hunting is addicting. Nearly a tie for first with waterfowl in my life.

Thanks for the suggestions. How about scope magnification? I was thinking the shots would be pretty close so maybe 1-4 or something more?

1-4 or 3-9 at best have seemed to do me the most justice personally... Because if (when) you call in enough coyotes, there will invariably be 50 meter or less shots.

Closest one we ever had, on a two-man setup was 20-25 yards. No joke. That's why we always did one shooter with #4 buckshot, for out to 50yds & the AR (or bolt gun shooter) for more distant.

Ultimately, I would go with what suits your own shooting abilities & inherent limitations. I prefered a 1-4, my friend used a 3-9 yet he had a 22/250 and admittedly was a better shot.

The most popular is probably 223

The best imho is a 55g NBT 243. Shoots real flat out to 300 yards traveling just under 4000 fps.

I have a picture of a coyote leg blown CLEAN off with that round

243 ... now that's got me thinking. I have a few .223's but they're setup mall ninja tacticool style. A camo 243 walking rifle would be pretty cool.

5.56 is very popular, but I like my 22-250. If I'm feeling especially cranky, the .308 works as well.

.223 is probably the most common caliber for yotes. Assuming you are not looking for a wildcat I would suggest that as #1 choice. Pretty much any centerfire in .22 or .243/6mm does the job nicely on yotes.
AR or Bolt gun is up to you and as for optics, you will probably find yourself on the lower end of magnification more often than at the high end. 1-4x, 1.5-6x, are great options. I use a 1.8-10x on my 6mm coyote rifle and have never needed more than 10x. Cant go wrong with a good ol 3-9x though, if you can make a moving shot on a close coyote at 3x

BTW, was just browsing Gallery of Guns and saw a Weatherby Vanguard S2 and a Tikka T3 Hunter both in 243 that looked really ice.

Anyone own one of these or have any experience with them?

Nothing wrong with using any rifle round 223 or larger. Hell, get 'em with a 375 H & H and they could explode like the famous exploding prairie dogs on youtube!

I love my remington 700 SPS in 30-06. It doesn't kick too hard, reasonably lightweight, super accurate, dozens and dozens of varying ammo available, and will put down most game in North America.
