    Do you wear blaze orange?

Obviously its for safety. The idea is you hope if you are downrange from another hunter they will see the orange and not shoot in your direction.

Different people I've talked to all have their own ideas on it. Some refuse to wear it because they say it ruins their camo and the deer will see them if they wear it.

Others say deer can't see orange so you're just as camouflaged to the animal but are safe from getting shot at.

When I got my hunting license the instructor said that deer are dumb and when they see orange they will come towards you to see what it is.

Nope, been hunting for 20 years, refuse to wear orange. If needed by law, it would be worn, if not nope. When I'm deer hunting I rarely see anyone else.

Lots and lots of stuff wrong and right. Orange is for safety and in California there is no requirement for orange. However in many many many other states there is a requirement for orange when gun hunting big game. Most states do not require orange during bow seasons.

As for the deer they are color blind soooo orange can be used effectively. However, they can see outlines so solid orange will give a pretty big outline. The orange camo stuff is pretty effective.

Whoever said deer come to orange are retarded and they should not be an instructor. However I bet you misquoted him....he probably just said deer can't see color so orange is pretty much the same thing as brown to a deer.

If I am walking I will wear it, because there are some stupid people in the woods. If I decide to sit down for an extended period of time I will take it off to "blend in".

public land hunting during gun season without orange is rolling the dice IMO. With the amount of people and itchy triggers in this state you're crazy to not wear at least some orange.

Deer can't identify the color either way.....so why refuse??? because you feel like wearing orange isn't fashionable? that's about the only reason.....I bet you'd be singing a different tune if someone thought you were a nice buck.......happens all the time..

It never ceases to amaze me that gun-hating CA has no demand for orange and no restrictions on magazine capacity on hunting rifles (rifles, not shotguns) while gun-loving CO (where I usually hunt deer) demands both orange and a 5-round max capacity.

Personally, I'd wear orange wherever I am. In CO, the camo-style orange is not allowed, but I'd wear it in CA.

As for the orange haters, I've seen plenty of them wearing blue jeans while in the field, a color which stands out like a neon sign to deer.

Because in Colorado they care about hunters and quality of the hunt......It's unneccessary to have more than 5 rounds in a gun....they are doing that to try and limit people from taking bad shots.

In California they are letting hunters thin out their own....pretty good plan for the anti's lol

                      Personal preference. Nothing more.
Orange is so that other hunter can see you. Nothing to do with the Deer.

I hunt South Dakota where orange is required and have no problem killing Deer, I wear a hat and vest.
In Ca I wear an orange hat, no problems here either.

I am absolutely not misquoting him. I remember exactly what he said, it stuck in my mind because it didn't sound right. Seemed like he was saying something just to get all the new hunters to wear orange.

He said "You are not required by law to wear orange, but I don't hunt without it and highly encourage all of you to wear it for safety. Some people won't wear orange because they say it will scare the deer away. But deer are pretty stupid. If it sees something out of the ordinary, like orange, it will think 'What is that, let me go get a better look'."

I wear it if I know there will be other hunters in the area or if I'm hunting in a group. I hunt birds mostly, and they see color so if I don't have to wear it...I won't. I have a camouflaged boonie hat that is Mossy Oak on one side and Blaze Orange if I flip it inside out. This way I have it on me at all times and have the option available.
