So I went deer hunting for my first time today off and I found out that I suck. I'm Just seeing if there are any other hunters that are hunting D-15 near R-3 that would like to take me under your wing and give me some pointers or even go with me to show me how to hunt deer in that area. Thanks for any info.

Anyone hunting D-15

Why do you think this? The success rate is only about 10% per hunter statewide and that includes premium zones where people do much better. So I went deer hunting for my first time today off and I found out that I suck. You are not going out to shoot at a herd of cattle. Hunting can be hard stuff and dedication and a no quit attitude are needed to be successful. Some have hunted for years and not killed a buck. -
I just think its funny that ive been coyote hunting for the past two weeks and have seen nothing but 3x3 and a 4x4 and no coyotes. I go out today and i see no deer but two seperate packs of coyotes. could the coyotes have scared them off that fast and does time and weather have a huge factor on deer huntingComment

If this zone just opened, DFG biologists determine when the deer are most likely to hit brush and become hard horned in your area. The seasons in CA are basically set by this "deer clock" Never fails! the week before the season you see bucks, and after the season you see big bucks. The odds of seeing deer during the season are stacked against you for a reason.I just think its funny that ive been coyote hunting for the past two weeks and have seen nothing but 3x3 and a 4x4 and no coyotes. Wow, it's only 12:30 on opening day in a zone that has a 8% success rate, and you think you suck because you didn't get one?
Get used to it, it's hunting. If it was easy, everyone would be filling their freezer with venison instead beef.
Your way ahead of the guys who didn't even get out of bed this morning. Every day out you learn a little more about hunting, and have a better chance of filling your tag.
Deer hunting the same everywhere. Find food, water, and bedding areas, and you'll find the deer. So all this means is you keep exploring, looking for signs of deer in the area. Be quiet, keep the wind in your face, move slowly, and glass as much as you can.John Bishop

If your hunting public land figure out where there arnt many other hunters and theres a good chance you'll find em. May require some hiking. I hunted D 19 last week, did 10-12 miles above 5000' feet and we saw 4 legal bucks and I missed one shot. DOH!Comment

I am new to hunting to and I'm down here in the D-16 zone. What I am using is game cams right now on the deer trails between the water and grass lands. Most of my pic's is them coming in to the water hoe between 7:00am and 8:00am and then they are bedding down just above the water hoe in the deep brush and trees.Comment

todddogg - I've got a number of days in this year and haven't killed a deer. It's not easy even when you have a primo spot (of which I don't
).
