muzzleloader OK in the shotgun only zones?

    Hi guys,

sounds like a stupid question, but I learned that some other states allow muzzleloader hunting in shotgun-only zones. Is it the same in CA? for those that read the absolute letter of the law. kosher? or is it no good?

I ask because my open sight muzzleloader is way more accurate than my scoped slug gun.

No shotgun only is shotgun only.......

    Muzzleloader is muzzleloader.....

I've never hunted a state where they are interchangable where regs specify shotguns or muzzleloaders...

In California the shooting regulations for unincorporated areas are set by County Ordnance. So it differs from county to county. As a example, in our county "shotgun areas" are restricted to shot shell loads with shot less then 1/2 the size of the bore, and no single projectiles.

Muzzleloading shotguns should be just fine.

Do you guys know what makes them designate areas as shotgun only? I was under the impression that smaller wildlife areas or those that were flatter with lack of a backstop tend to be shotgun only.

Usually it has to do with the proximity to populated areas as well as the landscape and whatever the hippy lobbyists pushed for.

This is what I may be looking at next. muzzleloader conversions. I hear some people fit breechplugs, some people have tried just cutting the plastic off a shotshell and used that as a primer carrier, then pour the goex right down their rifled slug barrel.
