So...my crew flaked, so I was on my own. Woulda brought my dog if I'd known that was gonna happen.
Late start, got to the boat at 7:30. Lotta guys fishing from shore back in the harbor. Saw one ~22 incher landed while I was gearing up. Finally headed out the jaws at 8:45. Reports from a fellow Shamrock of a few fish off Pleasure point in 70-80' so headed that way.
Gorgeous day! Crisp in the a.m. and the water was like glass. Put my line in at 9:15 and started trolling in 80' @ 50 OTW as I was seeing some bait there. Pretty slow, with minimal radio traffic and no nets flying. Eventually worked my way into 75' and the rod starts bouncing, releases and it was fish on! Half way to the boat it was fish off. Darn...farmed that one, but at least it was action. Worked that mark several times for no more takers.
Decided to work back out to 80'+ and was seeing a lot of activity near the bottom and some bait in the 50' zone. Alarm is going nuts and I look back at it was fish on again. This fish wasn't so lucky and I netted a 24" King just before noon. Worked that area hard for no more. Wind came up about 1 p.m. as forecast. Pulled the plug and headed in with some reward for my efforts.
Lotta work gearing up and running everything myself, but I do find I'm more in tune with the fish when I don't have all the people distractions. Brought the downriggers, drag chutes and cannonballs home, so the Vette was packed returning. Cleaned my one fish, wearily drove home and zonked about 6 p.m.
