Need suggestions for a game feeder

Do the $150 feeders work well?

Ive seen suggestions for Monarch, Sweeney, Kenco,Texas Hunting Products but they seem pricey.

Has anyone ever done a homebuilt one using the electronics from another company?

I've used 80 dollar moultrie's for years and years. Very simple to use and set up. Nothing fancy about em just set the times and forget it. I've had no issues from sub zero temps in NY to scorching Cali summers.

Edit: They've went up in price on Cabelas but they are still inexpensive...I'm sure you can find them a little cheaper else where. If you look at Cabelas reviews that some people have had issues others haven't but I've bought several feeders from moultrie with zero issues.

Lastly be careful with Cali laws....the regs don't really give a lot of leeway to feeders....I was ignorant about all the laws until a couple calgunners and a warden friend of mine broke it down. There are legal ways of feeding but I think you are leaving it to the interpretation of an officer. Just be careful where you put em and how you use them.

Also, the first time I tried building a feeder like you are suggesting...it was a huge pain in the *** and I ended up putting almost as much money into building one as it did to buy one and it didn't work nearly as good......anyways good luck.

There's a ton of grey space in the regs....IMO if you're going to use a feeder in California than you need to understand you are taking a risk of getting a ticket especially if you hunt the area. It's very tough to be able to obide by the laws and still use a feeder.....I'm not saying it can't be done but you basically need to have livestock and even then there is some grey area.
