Hi guys, I just recently finished my hunters education and was looking into getting some boar hunting under my belt. Does anybody have any recommended guided hunts that will not break the bank in the Southern to Central California area? I have seen them around $600 which is fine but I would appreciate any advice or feedback on guides anybody has tried out. Thanks!

I think there is a guy on here named "bigboarstopper" who is up that way, maybe look for him on here. -
Try this place out. It came highly recommended and the prices are not too bad.http://bighorncanyonranch.com/testimonials.htmlComment

For the OP, if you haven't read about BHCR before there are zillions of reviews on here about it. Basically it's a canned hunt. For an actual hunting (read not guaranteed killing) PM bigboarstopper as he is a licensed guide who has private ranches leased to take clients. He's taken calgunners before and they have posted their results on here.Try this place out. Look up pig-hunt.com. BC has retired and sold his operation to one of his guides. If they do half the job that BC did, you will have a ton of fun whether you get a boar or not. And these are not guaranted kills...these guys specialize in hunts, and they will guide you to a great hunt and you will learn a lot. My success with this outfitter has been 75 percent, which I am happy with. The great hunt success has been 125 percent.Hi guys, I just recently finished my hunters education and was looking into getting some boar hunting under my belt. Thanks everybody for your feedback. I really appreciate the help. I was looking earlier at pig-hunt and had it written on my list so I have a few calls to give on my next day off. I just have been really itching to get out and get some experience under my belt.Comment

I just sent you an email with an annotated list of Central CA guides. Lockwood is good but he's in N. Cal. Pig-hunt.com is Tony Phelps who is on the list I sent you. Nice young man but he's pretty booked I think until late June. Check with him. He has an associate/colleague who also guides and has a larger property and may be able to take you out sooner.Comment

I have a hunt first weekend of June with bigboarstopper and there's room for one more guy. If you're interested let me know, but only if you are serious. I'm not his sale rep, an it's really $&@&ing annoying to get 1000 pm's when I mention his hunt and having room for one more guy, and most are from guys just wanting to know price, with no intention of coming on the hunt. Only if you are serious, safe with your gun, and want to go on a real hog hunt. 3 days for a little more than what you'd pay for one day at Big Horn Canyon Ranch. Beautiful land, no guarantee, except that it's a good time hunting and camping outdoors. Somewhere around 5000 acres, I think? Search around for more info. Here's your chance to hunt with the legend.Comment

Sounds like a sweet offer but as my first time out I wouldn't want to be a nuisance to anyone. I'm confident and safe with my shooting but I was looking for some instruction and guide to show me the ropes and I wouldn't want to inconvenience other more experienced hunters in a group like this.

Reality of that is just don't talk when your not supposed too and talk quietly when you do. Watch your footsteps so you don't break every branch there is, etc. Just watch, listen, and follow the guides instructions to a "T"Sounds like a sweet offer but as my first time out I wouldn't want to be a nuisance to anyone. Plus in a 2+1 scenario (2 hunters/1 guide) you can experience 2 kills and double your experience..Originally posted by jmonte35Disagree. Been trying to teach lewdogg21 how to hunt. It's like trying to teach Steve Wonder how to see. Not sure we're ever going to get there.Comment

Yup, lewdogg21 is right on the money. No big deal if your first time out. In fact, hog hunting is probably a good idea for first time hunting, because hogs aren't as sketchy as deer- their eyesight isn't so great, but they hear and smell very well. Being quiet doesn't take a whole bunch of practice. You're welcome to join us- no inconvenience. All you need is a 30 caliber rifle, copper ammo, jeans, t-shirt, hat, sleeping bag, and a tent.
I'm joking when I say "the legend". And if I'm thread-jacking, go cry about it. I really don't care. I thought hunting/fishing was a man's venue. Never expected such sensitivity about being correct about what and where I post what. I'll say whatever the @#$% I want, wherever the @#$% I want to say it, so up yours.
How's this...@#$% you, if you're voting for Sh^Tbama. You ain't no friend of any hunter here, so why don't you get the @#$% out, if you don't like it.Comment
