First, take a Hunter safety course. This allows you to buy a hunting licence.

You can take the course and test online at the moment. https://www.hunter-ed.com/california/

The course work is mostly safety related but explains some of the regulations. Most species you can hunt have seasons, limits and various regulations. check here https://wildlife.ca.gov/Regulations

Log on to cadfw site,. That fgives you license and tags info. Get hunter safety first. You will need it anywhere in usa now. Unless you are 60 years old. (LOL) Mostly true.

After you take your hunter safety course and obtain your license, you need to learn the skills needed to hunt, such as the habits of your game, how to hunt the game of your choice, and how to field dress. Books and YouTube are an excellent resource. As to location, do a search online. There are a lot of sites that give hunter success rates and numbers of game animals.
