Legal magazine capacity in a Hunting Rifle in Cali?

I understand that there is a 2 +1 shotgun shell maximum when hunting birds.

I am thinking about using a 6.8 SPC AR for hunting. What is the legal magazine capacity when hunting deer or boar in California? I've heard 5 and 10 rounds.

    No restriction
Of course it may also not be legal to have more than 10 rounds, but that is not only for hunting rifles

There is no restriction for magazine capacity for hunting big game with a rifle.

I do remember sometime in the 60's there was a 5 round limit, but it was rescinded.

F&G still requires Shotguns to be limited to thee shells for big game(353 b F&G code). Doesn't make much sense. The shotgun limitation for Migratory game birds was limited to three shells many years ago through Federal regulations and it seems it was carried over to resident game birds and big game.

AR rules limit it to 10 rds. Anything above that is a felony.

Actually, 10+1 would be just fine.

Let's not pile on the new guy for a mostly correct answer. Unless it's a featureless AR AND the owner has legally obtained standard capacity mags, can you have more than a 10 round mag. So by the "AR rules" maybe he meant the flowchart, he just missed a few technicalities.
If you are wondering if you can get a LTC in Riverside County: THE ANSWER IS YES!

^^^Agreed.....But if the only firearm you own happens to only have a hi cap magazine, You might consider the weight savings by not packing a full mag around all day. 30 rounds is a noticeable weight.

Thank you guys. I wanted to know if I needed to buy or make a 5 round magazine for hunting with the AR. Apparently, that is not the case. I can use a 10 round magazine without issue.
