The Official CA Ground Squirrel Thread 2012

Everyone wanting to hunt these little guys should take a look at this.

B&C trophies should also be shown in this thread.

You can even include your favorite recipe

Are we allowed to hunt them with hounds? Do we need to remain at the scene after killing one until F&G arrives to confirm it's a legal kill? And last but not least, should we use a .223 or a 50 BMG?

I shot this charging bull (fang-faced pasture rat) with my 375 H&H, I have since ordered a new 458 Win Mag for more stopping power.

That must have been scary.....No wonder you ordered a larger gun. BTW did you use a combination of expanding and solids to stop that monster?

Nice racks are much better. You can grab both sides of the rack to help stabilize while mounting.

619- hilarious... But seriously, are these little buggers edible or what? I heard the gray tree squerls are very tasty, but I know they cannot be hunted in the southern half of the state. I have grounders in the hills by my house an would like to try them as long as they don't taste like dirt. So what's the deal? They good eating' or not?

That reminded me of the ones I took a couple of weeks ago with my airgun. I pulled out a measuring tape as well!
