    Hunting with a Thermacell

So I have always wanted to try a Thermacell out, especially if I am sitting in a blind near a water hole waiting for the hogs to come in. I was thinking anything to keep the mosquitos away. Well now I am finally going to get my chance, they were on sale at Home Depot for $8. So decided to get a couple and see how they go.

    Has anyone ever tried them?

If you don't know what I am talking about here's a link to the Cabelas.

Oh and check your Home Depots, I have never seen them that cheap ($8.06). Cabela's price is $23.99.

I have 1 and have used it a few times. Works good for mosquitoes as long as there is no wind, but does not work for heel flies at all. I decided a $10 head net worked much better.

I found it works great for skeets and the lil black flys that plague me in the mountains. I'm a firm believer in it now.

I agree with everyone else. I bought one last year after having been eaten alive in my tree stand. It worked as planned. Smells kinda strange but the deer don't mind for what ever reason.

I was thinking about them until I saw that they wouldn't work above 4,500 feet.

Also, you can't bring the butane refills on a plane.

Well I think for $8 I don't think I could really turn it down. Love those random Home Depot clearance racks.

I thought about them thermocells but cant justify the cost+refills and the 100% deet that im using is working fine other than for them annoyin tiny black flies i use a head net.

I'll have to see what that 4500' that fjold posted is about. I'm about 4600' and while on stand (no wind mind you) it makes using a headnet optional instead of the only way to keep sane once it warms up

I can't stand the feeling of DEET on skin, I have two thermacells and usually set them up on opposite sides of my duck blind when the skeeters are out (usually early season). I've also used them for Dove season and the thermacell kept them away and kept me welt free.. I swear by them..
