    Hunting with an AR15

Hey guys. I think I saw a thread about this before but I'm not great in searching. We're lookin to go to the d13 area and I don't know if I can use my AR. Logic tells me yes since it's CA legal but since I'm a first-timer, I don't know. Looking to hunt coyotes and jackrabbits.

Yes, as long as you have a hunting license and softpoint (expanding) ammunition.

Thanks. I'm just concerned about being harassed by DFG/LEO. But let me rephrase by prior statement. I have a CA compliant AR not one of the CA legal rifles with monster grips etc. I'm removing the vertical grip and flashlight which still leaves an EMOD stock, flash suppressor and pistol grip. Bullet-button installed.

You don't need expanding ammo for coyotes or jackrabbits. It certainly is more ethical though.

It's legal, bring a copy of the calguns Assault weapon flow chart and carry it on your person just in case.

I did print the flow chart and planned on taking with me. I've heard and read from other sites but they said they took a featureless AR. I would like to know the ifs and donts. I have a remmy 700 but it's a 308 and a definite overkill.

I ran into a game warden while on a pig hunt in monterey county with my 6.8 AR locked and loaded slung accross my chest.....he didn't have a problem with it. Just made sure I had a mag lock and lead free rounds. I hope future encounters with the law are as pleasant as this one.

I know every encounter is different but what features does your 6.8 have?

if its a ca compliance ar like u said, you shouldnt have any problems with dfg. all my encounters with dfg while i was huntin with the ar had been pleasant. i guess it just depends on the leo if he/she is just an a-hole.

AR for hunt is ok. Only idiot took our AR because he thougt it was an assault rifle. After a day he quickly returned it. We called Calgun foundation but no replies..
