So the damn wolf made it to CA

Now in theory this is the only one here.... Which means, he shouldnt be able to breed and hopefully gets hit by a semi-truck. Now the real question is.... do you think there are already wolves here???

    From the DFG: http://cdfgnews.wordpress.com/2011/1...rs-california/www.dfg.ca.gov/keepmewild/.

In the near future DFG expects to add information to its website (www.dfg.ca.gov) to provide extensive information on wolves to the public

Yep, although mostly of human or pet variety.

I grew up where you could drive less than an hour from town and be "taken" by wolves, mountain lions, brown/black bears among other things.
I think it's exciting to go for a hike and not feel like you're at the grove.

Once the wolf reaches the ocean, someone should take the GPS collar off and stick it on a whale.

They're an aggressive predator that will take the top place in the food chain. Which means there's nothing to reduce their numbers as they eat all of the deer, elk and everything else in the state. Oh and they're not chicken like coyotes, since they hunt in packs they have a lot less fear of solo humans in the woods.

Are they endangered? If they're not on a list, I just might go hunting soon

My beef is it's the introduction of a non-native apex predator species. So far they have done a number on regional elk herds in Idaho.

                          ^^ Agreed.

They will also be under the protection of the Endangered Species Act since California was not included in the push to allow state management that Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming were advocating.

If we don't get state management by DFG I fear another Prop 117 fiasco.

Update: Here's some info from BigGameForever.org regarding Wolf Overpopulation and it's effect on game animals.

Call me a tree hugging hippie but I too think it's pretty cool that we will once again here the calls of real wolves when camping, instead of just drunken fools howling at the moon. There have always been reasons to carry when camping, this makes it more so. I'm sure if other animal populations are negatively affected some wolf culling will be in order...I expect that to be a long time before that's an issue. In the meantime AOOOOHHHH! Go Wolf Go!

I did grow up in Eastern Washington which has Wolves, they were never an issue. The farmers *****ed a lot more about dogs chasing cattle than anything else. I'm sure a few wolves got shot at and learned to stay away. Plenty of deer in those parts too.

If the woods were even more full of wolves, bears, and mountain lions, and assorted vermin, I would still like it better than the Grove. Without the bookstore, it would be worthless.
