Anybody get a deer?

Just wondering if anyone killed a deer this weekend? I went to Cone Peak in the Ventana wilderness and saw no deer and very little sign of deer. Hope someone had some better luck.

My buddy's got two yesterday and I am heading out with another buddy tomorrow to get some. We will be hunting some public land around FHL.

Which chunk of land around Liggett are you going to? I was thinking of going out by the Indians sometime soon, but it may have been picked pretty clean over the weekend.

My friend called me this afternoon and told me that he, his dad, brother, and his girlfriend all got bucks on their ranch in Cambria on opening day.

They were around earlier in the year, but I think it is too dry for them. I was scoping out the ridge two weeks ago and there was nothing.

Ok, I was thinking that drought might be the reason why we saw nothing up there as well. I guess the spot is typically good, or so I have heard from many people, but this year appears to be an exception. My brother works at the Forest Service station just down the road (on Nacimiento-Fergusson I believe) and he said there were quite a few deer around just before bow season started, but he hasn't seen many at all lately.

I got my 1st Cali. buck on Sunday. Was hunting A-zone around Cache Creek. If you find some water, even a little stay there. Saw a few doe's Friday before opening day. Just doe's on Saturday. Went back out Sunday around 430pm and jump a doe while walking to the spot I was hunting day before. The doe ran about about 50 yards, looked at me then looked at a buck about 75 yards away from me across a pond. Put a 444 Marlin slug in & out both lungs. He dropped about 20 yards away from shot.
It was a frok, about 95lbs before dress. Forgot camera so will post pix later. Got a B-zone tag. Can't wait.

I think that they are banning lead ammo on Liggett and Roberts at the first of the year, but I might be wrong.

You are right. All military installations in PRK will not allow lead ammo for hunting, according to the pamphlet I received for Hunter Ligget.

Congrats on youre first cali deer! I remember my first buck i got at shaver lake on my first hunting trip and on opening day to boot! I live in a deer rich enviroment but around this time of year they "disappear" for a few months lol.

Congrats it is very difficult to take an A zone public land buck.

I've hunted Lake county since I was a kid, spent a lot of time there.
