    Anyone Live On Catalina Island?

I have been looking into hunting deer over on Catalina Island, and it turns out its a lot cheeper if you can go as a guest of a resident.

Anyone a resident? or Know one?

Unless you go as a guest you are required to go with a guide, $$$

I thought they banned hunting on Catalina. I've always wanted to go pig hunting there.

    I stand corrected

here is the phone number for questions about hunting:

This no longer applies, there is and outfit regulating theses hunts and it's a bit costly $1800 or so till all or most deer are eradicated. but shiot does happen so you should do a search?

I did do a search. I called and spoke with the person in charge today Before I made this post.

            The cost is,

            Guide fee. $800
            CA licence and tags ?
Private land tag $100 per tag.

Guide fee includes guide, base camp (tent and stove, cot etc.), transport on island. Does not include food.

If you are a guest you avoid the guide fee but need your own place to sleep.

I too would love to hunt catalina island, or anywhere semi local to so. cal. I do not need/want a trophy animal just the feeling of being in the field.

for a poor college student this is insanity though I mean your talking $800+ other fees just to bag a non-trophy animal..... that the goverment wants killed anyway!!!!

If anyone can help me out it would be greatly apperciated.

P.S. 800 is much more reasonable then the 3k+ I was quoted to hunt Santa Rosa, which btw is also insanity seeing as all animals not hunted will be eradicated by the government anyway..... and the Sierra Club and others think they are helping by encouraging to government to massively slaughter these animal populations for the "environment" and worse yet they make massive $$$$ for those involed as well...... seems a tad shady to me.

I tore Catalina and Santa Cruz up hunting in the 80's. Lots of good times. Then I started diving around Catalina, Santa Rosa, and Nic in the 90’s. I can’t believe it’s been 20-30 years ago already.

Catalina Island is a privately owned island. The Wrigley family (chewing gum) owned it, and then donated it and set up a conservancy to over see it. Previous owners brought over mule deer, buffalo, black buck, and turkey. The Spanish Goats and pigs were put there by the Spanish to supply meat to the ships as they traveled.
It's the Catalina Island Conservancy that wants all non-native species removed, not the government. Supposedly the only native species is the Island Kit Fox, and some birds.
It use to be a great and affordable hunting area. Up until about mid 90's you could book hunts ( 2.5 days) from friday morning to sunday afternoon. The hunt included the boat ride from San Pedro, a tent camp (wood floors and cots), and transportation around the island. There was no limit on goats, 2 pig limit, 1 turkey limit if in season, and 1 deer limit if in season (D-11 tag required). Price was $295.00.

Your grasp on the concept is week at best. Maybe you should change that.

You could always just hunt EMO kids. I mean, they are just gonna cut their wrists anyway right?

I only know what was conveyed to me....... its WEAK BTW

and just because they cut wrists does not mean that want to die......

Still like i said the Santa Rosa issue is much more appalling then the issue with Catalina although maybe someone can clear up the issue as to whom ordered the elimination of the larger game animals on Catalina.

This is why we need someone who lives on the island to avoid the $800 part of the fee.
