You can buy the tag applications at sporting goods stores. You mail the application in, and DFG will send you a tag.
If you want the tag right away, you need to go to a DFG office that sells them.

Check DFG's website. There are some retailers selling tags over the counter as part of a pilot program. There may be one close to you. Check here.

I bought my application at big 5, mailed it to dfg, and they sent me my tag, -easy.

I got mine in the mail, took about 7 days.

A side note, if you purchase it the DFG you do not have to pay the processing fee (around 5 bucks)
