Your right about that. But, the story was from 35-40 years ago and I was about 13 years old when I started shooting dove with a BB gun. My parents were okay with it it but my dad said that I better not bring home anything that had shot in it. He would know that someone else plugged it, not me, and a blistering would be in order. Dairy farms west of Pheonix stored feed in open barns. Grain piled up 20 feet high and it was a buffet for dove and pigeons.

I used to hike or ride horseback out to what is now Sun City and could be gone all day or overnight. We learned where the fruit was and there were lots of birds in the area because of the high water table. Ponds could be found in the summer even before the monsoons. Lunch was lunch.

Anyway, you know how hunters lies, er stories, go sometimes. Not the same as fish stories, but.

Eurasian doves didn't arrive to the Western Hemisphere until they were brought to the Carribean Islands a few decades ago. A few escaped their cages about 15 years ago and quickly made their way to California. Probably trying to get back to Malasia or some other Eurasian place. Arizona only had mourning dove, white wings and Inca dove.

I hunt in and out of season all the time. I have an awesome spot for rabbits. Does that make me a poacher? Last I remember, jacks were open year round.

He said he shoots birds. He never said what birds.
It is obvious since it is a dove hunting forum.

Curtis, if euro's are in California along the Arizona boarder wouldn't it be safe to say they are also in Arizona along the California boarder, sometimes you out think yourself.

That was not stated now was it? Especially since the word "SEASON" came up.

I clicked off the safety and BOOM! a covey of quail exploded around that lucky dove. I couldn't take the shot. I saw three covey of quail and a couple dozen (easily) cotton tail over three hours.

There were plenty of birds. The hunt would have been better with one or two additional gunners. Walking the wind rows, the birds mostly broke away from me. Another hunter on the other side would have made things interesting. There were two other guns in the field but, they complained about the low turn-out of birds. I pointed out where the dove were but, they insisted on sitting on their camo "dove stools". I saw those things at Turners, prominently displayed right inside the door. I guess they don't work so well.
What area did you hunt? I need a new quail spot!
