Danner Outlet Store - FYI
If you are ever in the Portland OR area, Danner has an outlet store near the Portland airport. I stumbled upon it on the way back to the airport in my rental car while on a business trip. Prices were about 40% of list. I picked up a nice pair of Chukka boots for about $50.

My favorite too. Love them for upland hunting. Had them for about 30 years now on about half thru the second set of soles. My dad got them thru the shoe-mobile @ work, but didn't like the fit after they were delivered. I tried them on and since we had the same size foot, they fit me fine. So he gave them to me rather than go thru the hassel of sending them back.sigpicComment

Whites boots are by far the best boot I have ever worn. I was issued a pair of smokejumpers as part of my wildland gear when I worked for a fire dept. I wore these boots for weeks straight, never with a problem. They are expensive but they have a centinel hiker boot that is a little more affordableComment

No somebody seriously got me to consider Wesco boots, and whites. I have been checking them out and man, they're $400 bucks for a lot of pair, but there is nothing out there that touches their reliability. I love both of their specs, but I'm going to go get measured for one in the next few days. I'll tell you how it goes.Last edited by bombadillo; 08-29-2010, 11:08 PM.Comment

Wesco and Whites are good boots and popular among firefighters and loggers. I bought a pair of Drew's boots, made in Klamath Falls, OR about a month ago. They fit great (you send in your measurements) and I read good reviews about durability on a wildland firefighters forum. I got the style I did since they will be the coolest here in warm CA. http://drewsboots.com/firelogg.htm#DROP10VNo somebody seriously got me to consider Wesco boots, and whites. Downside was the waiting list was a month long. At 6 pounds per pair they make you feel like a beast. This week I've been clearing brush and basically I can just stomp branches with them and not feel anything, they are that good.
Oh yeah, btw, the White's Hathorn budget line is only ok if you're going to be wearing them only occasionally. They are made with lesser quality leather than stretches and looses support with extended use. That's according to a forest service firefighter I know who wore out a pair in a summer. His regular Whites last multiple seasons.Last edited by ChaparralCommando; 08-30-2010, 12:33 AM.Comment

Try the OTB's that the Special Forces use. I use them and they work great.
I am not a size 11 or these would have been owned by me already. For the price they will last you a lifetime.

Man, that's why I love this site...so much great info.
Lewdogg, great question, I forgot to mention that.
I plan on starting off on upland birds, and maybe getting into some pig hunting. Duck season, I really don't really need boots, right? Staying in CA, so no real heavy weather. I just need something that will be comfy on long hikes and will withstand the test of time. Seems like American-made Danners are the way to go (I just hate the styles!)
The $400 boots are more than I want to spend, after all, I am trying to put together my gear from a zero point...an expensive undertaking. I need cost-effective quality. Hence Remington not Benelli...
