First time duck hunting, help with gear?

Hey guys, I got took my hunter's safety class last year, but too late to get any hunting done.

Now I'm trying to get all my gear together so that I can do some duck hunting this year. For now, all I have is my Beretta AL390. Anyone have a gear checklist so I can have everything I need?

    Thanks!

    <>

    Must have:

Shotgun (pluged for 3 shells max)
    Steel Shot Shells
    Waders
    Jacket
    Hat
    Flashlight
    Watch
    Licence
    Federal Duck stamp
    State Duck stamp
    Harvest Stamp

Then the list is quite long!!! Depending on how much stuff you want to haul out and need for an overnight stay.

I bring out to the blind

    All the above
    12-24 decoys
    decoy bag
    decoy boat
    shell belt
    Cart
    Bind
    mud seat
    sprig call
    mallard call
    speck call
    snow call
    lunch
    coffee

Camping gear for overnight stays and weekends

Decoys might help. Make a friend with a hunting doggy. I consider slim jims a must as well.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, this is what I need. I will definitely be seeking an experienced bud to tag along with when it comes time to head out.

For the waders/jacket - any recommendations here? I see a lot of different styles and camo patterns. I'd like to get something that is affordable but will last at least a couple seasons.

Drake is what I wear and it will last longer than a couple of seasons that's for sure. Floating blind bag is great. Some of my properties have the blind in the middle which is surrounded by water. Some extra camo for your blind comes in handy every now and then.

The Feeder has it pretty well covered. Possibly a roll of TP?

me and my brother usually hunt wister and san jacinto the better of the two is wister. we always get a mix bag of ducks and last season got some snow geese down at wister. the key to duck hunting is saveing money. buy a type A season pass and it will save you alot of money. pm me if you need more info

Cabelas & Walmart are your friends.

I like neoprene chest waders, but they are hot and a pain in *** during the warmer early season.

The positives are you don't have to worry about sitting you jeans in mud, or getting a wet *** when it's raining.
These are on sale right now.

As for a jacket Use a Parka sized jacket with hip boots, or a shorter wading jacket for chest waders. I'm a huge fan of Columbia they will last a lifetime.

Go shoot some trap and practice. Shoot shells with the same FPS (feet per second) in the blind as you do for trap. I like the Winchester Xpert 1550 FPS #2's. I shoot #4's in the early season though.

You can find lead trap shells for about $6 a box that are 1550 FPS.

As far is camo patterns go your trying to break up your shape and movement. I don't think the ducks can actually see the patterns, but rather the lack of a solid color/shape.

Buy a net face mask to keep your face from shining and flaring the birds. $3 at Walmart.

I got an ad from Macks praire wings for $99 per case for those xpert in 3" 1-1/8 ounce. (pretty sure it's the xpert, it's the cheaper of the winchester line)

That plus $17 per case shipped. If anybody wants more info shoot me a pm.
