    Bow Hunting Chukar

I know it's crazy, or at least that's what all my friends are telling me. I think it's doable.

Archery season (Quail and Chukar) opened last Sat and runs for 21 days... Heck, you can get a jump on the general season by 2 months!

I'm going out this weekend and give it my best. Using a Magnus Archery Bullhead broadhead... 100gr, 4" of cutting area.

Are these barn raised birds or is this real hunting?

Either way you're a much better shot for even thinking of going than I ever would be. Go get'em Robin Hood.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

We did archery bird hunting as a kid in Eastern Washington......Chuckers, Pheasant, ducks and grouse mostly. We used what were called FUFU arrows.....I am not sure of the spelling. They had large diameter spiral fletchings that slowed the arrow. We shot a lot in those days. My best buddy could hit a ping pong ball swinging on a string at 30'. The arrow tip made no difference. I think that we shot blunts and used our light (35 lb) target bows.

It is a lot of fun. I have hunted chukkar near red rock canyon before with my bow and got 2. Quail are pretty easy to hit when they are in groups on the ground with a FluFlu arrow.

          Best of luck.

You may want to try some judo points, you'll get clean kills and loose less arrows.

Judos are not that great fro birds. The are great for small game.

I shot four quail last year that would disagree with you.
At $40 for a three pack of Magnus broadheads it could become an expensive hunt.

I agree the Magnus broadheads are not the way to go but try these out instead of the Judo's. I am not saying Judo's don't work they are just more for small game hunting unless you are shooting the birds o the ground.

Here is where you can order them.

                    These are Snaro Field points.

I don't think you want to pay freight from Australia PCH, that link is to a company there. There are several bow stores in USA that sell the snaros like 3Rivers, Keystone Country Store etc

                        The report...

We found them, and you know if you've hunted Chukar, they are not easy. The closest we were able to get was 80-100 yds. Even with minimal movement, in full camo, they knew we were there.

Between my son and I we managed to get between a covey of about 25-30 birds, couldn't get a shot, just too far.

Next weekend we'll have a different plan... The area, as with any Chukar area is very rocky and mountainous, I'm going to get to the top of range where they migrate too and have my son push from the valley floor... Heck, it's a good as plan as today's was.

BTW, I used Montec's G6, small game heads. They have four cutting surfaces that work very well.

The regulation allows non-Flu-Flu for Quail and Chukar.

We even drove a BLM ranger, didn't even look as us.
