    Lead Lies from Kalifornia

My google searching is weak and way over censored.

I swear I read an article about how, I think, it was UCDavis "researches who fabricated the LEAD IS KILLING ALL THE DUCKS! ..but in reality they lied about the numbers and lead was not even close to the "deadly shot" of hunters around the state.

    Cant find it anywhere now...

    Any "leads" on this article?

The bigger deal is wads not degrading and showing up hundreds of miles from where they were shot. They are all over the waterways and beaches. CRPA had a good article on it this month. We need a biodegradable wad material .

There are biodegradable wads on the market. They're just more expensive so people avoid them.

That is one of the small benefits of black powder shotguns. Powder, wads & cards & lubes all break down as they are essentially natural materials. Caps, not so much -- aluminum or copper. But good luck finding one of those tiny things on the ground.

OP clueless. Look up lead shot as a mortality factor in waterfowl/ Circa 1960s. Hippies from Davis came along much later. Written by Frank Bellrose illinois 1960

The duck story about lead is relatively true. They did studies where they screened the lake mud and found way more then I would have guessed shot pellets. The ducks were eating them like gravel while sitting the mud for food.

^^^ Exactly correct. I did paper on this in 1969 re. Kern Refuge amount of hunters per season times average shells expended x avg 1 1/4 ounce lead shot deposited on ponds and wetlands. Staggering. Puddle ducks had crops/gizzard packed with lead
