300 rum

Does anybody hunt with a 300 RUM? I can't decide to get 26" or a 28" carbon fiber barrel?

I did a carbon barrel 300PRC. Was a close call over a 300 win mag. But the faster twist (better accommodates longer all-copper rounds) tipped it for me. That and I reload my own so availability and cost of ammo weren?t as big of a deal.

300 RUM is for waaaayy out there elk and such. I think id lug around the extra 2? of barrel for a little more velocity even in the mountains. With what, 100 grains of powder in your load to burn, I think 2 more inches will make a difference. Eat a few less Big Macs and a few more carrot sticks and make the weight difference up that way. [emoji23]

And buy at least 20 lbs of lead for the sled when sighting it in!

Nothing is going to notice the difference when shot with a 26” or 28” barrel. And if you can reliably shoot a 300 rum we should be asking you questions, not the other way around, lol.

The extra velocity should help accuracy -maybe only marginal - at longer distances and higher winds.

Not about the ft-lbs so much.

Been watching a little too much Gunwerks Long Range on the Pursuit channel?

Since I limit my medium and large game hunting to 500 yards or less, if I thought that I needed a 300 RUM, I would just use my 375 H&H.

For long range, a 235 grain Raptor at 3,100 fps and for less than 300 yards, a 300 grain TSX at 2,500 fps,

Same, 26" 300 PRC. Very efficient caliber for the longer bullets. 300 rum just seemed like too much unless I was getting a custom chamber and all the fancy jazz.

Curious about this too. Thats a lot of recoil. Usually when I want something to be more precise at longer range I step down in recoil as most of the wasted accuracy is on my end, not the bullets.

I have one that I've shot an elk with, but only because it's the gun I had in the truck at the time. I prefer my 300 WM.
