I have an absolutely amazingly beautiful Winchester 70 from the mid-1950's with a tiger maple stock that I am taking to hunt at end of month. It is calibered in .270 and shoots as straight as can be. (I'll try to post a photo)
I am planning to take a full-size 1911 (.45) as a backup sidearm. Question is whether to carry hollow point (as I would for self defense in an urban situation), or fmj, in the unlikely event of an animal attack?
My feeling is that the fmj would penetrate better than the hollow point, and if the animal is that formidable, it would not go flying out the other side risking anything behind it. On the other hand, hollow point may not penetrate sufficiently.
I am leaning towards fmj, but any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
