      ><

3" or 3.5" BB should do the trick....I bag a bunch of geese each year with BB 3"

I second the advise from the previous post.... Pattern, steel shot is not like lead, patterns get go from great to crap just changing one thing like the shot size.

One thing I learned over the yeas is that you can here the pellets hitting the bird...that tells you that you put the pattern on the bird. If it does not come down it is either out of effective range, you missed or you need to reevaluate the shells you are using, 50 yards is sky scrapping with steel shot.

Get to Coyote Valley Sporting Clays with some target loads and shoot the Tower station, I think its Station 15. If you can hit the clays you are going to hit the birds

Have a good, safe and fun season

I have been using fast steel and it brings meat to the table. The last one I shot however was swimming with the decoys. I let it continue doing its thing to bring its friends. They don’t take off quickly enough from 5 yards in from of my choke.

I think a lot of pellets you hear, but don't appear to have effect, hit wing panels.

When I shoot 3.5" shells the recoil is significantly higher than 3" and I don't enjoy it. I'd say BB size.

That?s been my experience. If this happens, more lead on the second or third shot. You want the middle of the shot string to hit their head/neck area. That usually drops them.

Yes ! Lead the damn birds ? I refuse to shoot anything stiffer than # 2s it is a beautiful e thing when you lead them just a touch too much and you think you missed till they fly inTo the back of the shot string and fold like a sack of shat . 1 bb to the beak and one under the chin ?. Never clean bloodshot breasts again !
                Be about it !
