Bad rabbit hutting season in NorCal and Central Valley

I have heard from friends that there aren't many rabbits comparing with past years because of the over populated coyotes.

do yo experience the same thing?

Seen a decent boost in numbers in central California. Previous years of drought have really decimated the rabbit population but this last years rain has basically doubled the population but that’s really not saying much.

Hopefully with all the new grass and cover available they will have another decent year. Coyotes are going to pick off more if there are more out there to get but like I said, more rain, more grass, more rabbits.

Lots of rabbits on the central coast and in the central valley the last month or so. Big increase over last year.

The flooding likely impacted them more than the ?yotes this year.

I didn't get the joke until I read the second time.

Nice one and very true too.

Its been very slow in Socal as well. Haven't seen many at all. Even in the spring there was very little road kill.

I'm in socal and I usually see lots of rabbits even around my neighborhood, but this year I haven't seen any, which is weird. I have seen a lot of Coyotes though, so that may be why there are fewer rabbits around my area.

Went to Central Valley for the opening day. It seems a little bit more rabbits than last year. BTW, don't ever post the hunting place in the web site. The first place I went to was posted in the internet and there were at least 10 hunters showed up around 5:10AM.

I've heard that rabbit populations cycle on about a 10 year period.

My observations seem to hold that to be true.

That said, the AV seems to have a healthy rabbit population at the moment.

Think of all the bunnies killed when Tulare lake flooded. I used to hunt up there along canals.
