Are any of these reels right for the Sea of Cortez, next year?

Against my better judgment, I'm going back Los Barriles next year, in July.

We're doing super pongas next time. My buddy's say we need our own gear. I have these reels. Will any of them work for tuna, darado, marlin?

    Yea, they’ll work. You’ll want a 20#, 30# and 50/60# rig and you’ll be fine.

All kidding aside, they will work just fine. As tunaman alluded to, your line quality is your next step in preparation.

          Which shotgun should I buy?

          You'll need 10.

          Pumps in 12, 20, and 28
          Semis in 12, 20
          Over/under 12, 20, and 28
A duck gun, and a Krieghoff.

Agreed they will work with good line. Fair warning though: you can only bring in 4 reels per person. Had a run in with 5 reels one year.
You indicated "despite your better judgment". Have you considered fishing out of La Paz? I highly recommend it. Las Palmas is nice, but La Paz has better restaurants and more to do. You can fly direct from San Diego or LAX.

Yea , you’re good with those. I’d switch to braid line with a topshot of fluorocarbon on your 30 lb + rigs and run straight mono on your 20.

I bought the two Torium reels at a charity silent auction. I was a member of the Orange County Fly Fishing Assn.

When old geezers die, their widows donate their crap for a fundraiser near Christmas. I think I paid 50 bucks each.

I’d take the toriums one with 40lb braid and and one with 60# braid and adjust top shot as needed.

Don’t worry, your pangero will catch the fish for you while trolling and help you hold it up for the pictures. Boat limits do apply.

Two words of warning about Las Palmas. Approximately 7 years ago, six of us tore up the YFT. We had 274 lbs of filets for 2 days of fishing out of cruisers. The only problem was that it cost us $1 per pound to have them fileted, vacuum packed, and frozen. It put a bit of a damper on an otherwise great trip. Same service in La Paz is included.

Second, I only recall seeing pangas on one trip about a decade ago. All of the cruisers picked up their passengers from the pier first and then the pangas loaded their passengers. Apparently, size (of the boat) matters. Pangas are faster and you might get to the same fishing areas at the same time.

P.S.: There was only one store in "town" which sold tackle. I suggest bringing everything you need and everything which you might need. Gear and tackle on the pangas / cruisers are hit and miss.

2nd P.S.: At least for this year, you can buy your Mexico fishing license online. It was very easy.
